✅ Description:
Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic with broad receptor-binding activity, including:
- Serotonin (5HT2A/2C, 5HT3, 5HT6)
- Dopamine (D1–D5)
- Muscarinic (M1–M5)
- Adrenergic α1 and Histamine H1
Its antipsychotic effect is thought to result from combined dopamine and serotonin receptor antagonism. Olanzapine is well absorbed orally, unaffected by food, and demonstrates no carcinogenic or mutagenic properties.

Schizophrenia & Bipolar Disorder (combo therapy):
Start with 5–10 mg once daily. Adjust as needed up to max 20 mg/day.
Mania (monotherapy):
Start with 15 mg once daily. Adjust based on response up to 20 mg/day.
Olanzapine can be taken with or without food. Taper off gradually before discontinuation.
- Elderly (≥65 years): Start at 5 mg/day
- Hepatic/Renal impairment: Start at 5 mg/day
- Children: Not recommended for children under 18 years
