Pregabalin is used to relieve nerve pain from conditions like diabetes, shingles, and spinal cord injuries, as well as fibromyalgia. It's also used to treat certain seizures and may be prescribed for anxiety if other treatments aren't suitable.
You can take it with or without food, but it's important to take it consistently at the same time daily. The dose will depend on your condition and response, and your doctor may start with a low dose, gradually increasing it. Common side effects include sleepiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, and edema, which usually resolve on their own. Avoid alcohol, and be cautious when driving due to potential drowsiness and blurred vision. Let your doctor know if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
There is no interaction known between alcohol and this medicine. However, consuming alcohol for a long period can lead to damage to your nerves. Consult your doctor if drink too often.
There is limited safety information available about the use of this medicine during pregnancy. Use effective contraception if you are a woman of childbearing age and taking this medicine.
Pregabalin passes into the breastmilk, but its effect on the breastfed baby is unknown. Thus, your doctor will decide whether to discontinue breastfeeding or discontinue the treatment with the PGCR 82.5mg Extended Release Tablet depending upon the benefits of the medicine for a nursing mother.
PGCR 82.5mg Extended Release Tablet has a minor or moderate influence on your ability to drive. It may blur your vision and make you dizzy and sleepy, thus you should be cautious or avoid driving if you do not feel well or are unable to be alert.
PGCR 82.5 should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. A dose adjustment of PGCR 82.5 may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
PGCR 82.5 is safe to use in patients with liver disease. No dose adjustment of PGCR 82.5 is recommended.
PGCR 82.5mg Extended Release Tablet works by reducing the release of a chemical (neurotransmitter) in the brain responsible for the sensation of pain.
Common side effects in adults include dizziness, somnolence, dry mouth, edema, blurred vision, weight gain, and difficulty with concentration. In pediatric patients, increased weight and appetite are the most common side effects of partial-onset seizure treatment.
Pregabalin is a structural derivative of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter. However, Pregabalin does not directly bind to GABA receptors. Instead, it binds with high affinity to the alpha2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, which is thought to contribute to its anti-nociceptive and antiseizure effects.
Overdose symptoms include reduced consciousness, confusion, agitation, seizures, and heart block. Supportive care is recommended, as there is no specific antidote. Elimination of unabsorbed drugs can be attempted by emesis or gastric lavage.
Pregabalin is taken orally, with or without food. Pregabalin CR tablets should be taken after an evening meal and swallowed whole without splitting, crushing, or chewing. If a dose is missed after an evening meal, it should be taken before bedtime following a snack. If missed before bedtime, take it after a morning meal. Gradual tapering is recommended when discontinuing Pregabalin.
Children and Adolescents: Safety and effectiveness have not been established for certain conditions in pediatric patients. For partial-onset seizures, it is not established for those below 1 month of age.
Pregabalin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or any of its components.
There are no adequate studies on the use of Pregabalin in pregnant women, and small amounts of the drug have been found in breast milk. Due to the potential risk of tumorigenicity, breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
