Zinc Sulfate Monohydrate is prescribed in cases of Zinc deficiency and/or zinc loss. Zinc deficiency can be caused by a poor diet or poor absorption. Excessive zinc loss can occur as a result of trauma, burns, diarrhea, and other protein-depleted conditions. A zinc supplement is given until clinical improvement occurs, but in severe malabsorption or metabolic disease, it may need to be continued.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn, and gastritis are all side effects of zinc.
