Available strengths: 65 mg, 100 mg, 130 mg, 200 mg

Vulvovaginal candidiasis: 200 mg twice daily for 1 day (or 130 mg twice daily for 1 day)

Pityriasis versicolor: 200 mg once daily for 7 days (or 65 mg twice daily for 7 days)

Tinea corporis/cruris: 100 mg daily for 15 days OR 200 mg daily for 7 days

Tinea pedis/manuum: 100 mg daily for 30 days

Oropharyngeal candidiasis: 100 mg daily for 15 days (increase in AIDS/neutropenic patients)

Onychomycosis: Continuous—200 mg daily for 3 months OR Pulse—200 mg twice daily for 7 days, repeated after 21 days (fingernails: 2 courses; toenails: 3 courses)

Systemic infections:

• Aspergillosis: 200 mg daily for 2–5 months (higher dose if disseminated)
• Candidiasis: 100–200 mg daily for 3 weeks to 7 months
• Cryptococcosis: 200 mg daily for 10 weeks; meningitis—200 mg twice daily for 2–6 months
• Histoplasmosis: 200 mg once or twice daily for 8 months
• Maintenance in AIDS: 200 mg daily
• Prophylaxis in neutropenia: 200 mg daily until recovery

Doses should be individualized based on infection type, severity, and clinical response.

✔️ Side Effects

• Common: Nausea, abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, headache, dizziness
• Occasional: Elevated liver enzymes, menstrual disorders, skin rashes, allergic reactions
• Serious (rare): Hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, peripheral neuropathy, Stevens-Johnson syndrome
• Prolonged use: Hypokalaemia, edema, hair loss

✔️ Avoid co-administration with:

• Terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride (risk of arrhythmia)
• Statins (simvastatin, lovastatin)
• Oral midazolam, triazolam
• Rifampin, phenytoin, phenobarbital
• Calcium channel blockers, digoxin

✔️ Contraindications:

• Known hypersensitivity to itraconazole
• Severe hepatic disease
• Concomitant use with rifampin or strong enzyme-inducing drugs
• Pregnancy (contraindicated)

Lactation: Not recommended

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Absorption is reduced with low gastric acidity → take after a full meal.
• If using antacids, take 2 hours after Itracon SUBA.
• Monitor liver function in patients on therapy for more than one month.
• Use reliable contraception during treatment.
