Omep 20mg Capsule, The anti-ulcer drug capsule is used to treat diseases where the stomach secretes excessive amounts of acid. A few issues brought on by excessive amounts of stomach acid include stomach and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration of Omep 20mg Capsule

• Omep 20mg Capsule is used for treating various conditions related to the stomach and esophagus. The recommended dose for duodenal ulcer is 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, and for gastric ulcer, it is 8 weeks. In severe cases or when there is a recurrence, the dose can be increased to 40 mg daily. A maintenance dose of 20 mg once daily is prescribed for recurrent duodenal ulcers, and a dose of 10-20 mg once daily is used for preventing relapse in duodenal ulcers.
• For NSAID-associated duodenal or gastric ulcer, a dose of 20 mg once daily is prescribed for 4 weeks, and it can be continued for a further 4 weeks if needed. For patients with a history of NSAID-associated duodenal or gastric ulcers, a prophylactic dose of 20 mg once daily is recommended.
• In gastroesophageal reflux disease, the recommended dose is 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks, and it can be continued for a further 4-8 weeks if not fully healed. A dose of 40 mg once daily can be given for 8 weeks in cases where other treatments have failed. The maintenance dose is 20 mg once daily for long-term management of acid reflux disease.
• For acid-related dyspepsia, a dose of 10-20 mg once daily is prescribed for 2-4 weeks. In the prophylaxis of acid aspiration, a dose of 40 mg is given on the evening before surgery and then 40 mg 2-6 hours before surgery.
• In Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the recommended dose is 60 mg once daily initially, and the usual range is 20-120 mg daily. If the daily dose is more than 80 mg, it should be divided into two doses.
• For the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in peptic ulcer disease, Omeprazole is recommended at a dose of 20 mg twice daily, in combination with antimicrobial agents.
• For pediatric use in severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis in children over 1 year of age, the recommended dose is 10-20 mg once daily for 4-12 weeks for body weight between 10-20 kg, and 20-40 mg once daily for 4-12 weeks for body weight over 20 kg.

Interaction

Omep 20mg Capsule has potential interactions with several medications, including blood thinners (such as clopidogrel and warfarin), antifungal drugs (including ketoconazole, voriconazole, itraconazole, and posaconazole), anti-HIV medications (such as atazanavir and nelfinavir), iron supplements, antibiotics (such as ampicillin and rifampicin), heart medications (like digoxin), and anti-cancer drugs (such as methotrexate). It is essential to inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines.

Using Omep 20mg Capsules along with St. John's wort, a plant-based antidepressant, can lead to interactions that can affect the effectiveness of Omep 20mg Capsules. Therefore, it is advised to avoid taking St. John's wort with Omep 20mg Capsule.

Omep 20mg Capsule is not recommended for patients with C. difficile-induced colitis, liver disease, bone fractures, low Vitamin B12 levels leading to anemia, or low magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia). If you have any of these conditions, inform your doctor before taking Omep 20mg Capsule. Additionally, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should consult with your doctor before taking Omep 20mg Capsule. Contraindications

Omeprazole is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formulation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Omeprazole is classified as a pregnancy category C by the US Food and Drug Administration.
