Betamethasone + Clotrimazole combines two active ingredients: Betamethasone and Clotrimazole. Betamethasone, a steroid, works by inhibiting the production of specific chemical messengers known as prostaglandins. These prostaglandins are responsible for causing redness, swelling, and itching of the skin. Clotrimazole, an antifungal agent, acts by inhibiting the growth of fungi on the skin. It does so by preventing the fungi from forming their protective covering. Together, these components effectively treat various skin infections.
Common side effects include burning, irritation, itching, redness, thinning of skin, and skin peeling.
Betamethasone, a corticosteroid, controls inflammation by inhibiting protein synthesis and reducing the migration of certain immune cells. Clotrimazole, an antifungal agent, disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity, preventing their growth and spread.
Apply to the infected area twice daily for 2 weeks for tinea cruris and tinea corporis, and 4 weeks for tinea pedis. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or vagina. Discontinue use if irritation worsens.
Avoid in patients sensitive to clotrimazole, betamethasone dipropionate, or any of the preparation's ingredients. Not for use in children under 17 years old.
Use during pregnancy may increase the risk of low birthweight infants. Caution advised during lactation; avoid direct application to nipple and areola.
Systemic absorption of corticosteroids may occur, leading to potential side effects such as Cushing's syndrome and hyperglycemia. Use caution in pediatric patients due to increased systemic toxicity risk.
