• It may cause skin irritation and rash. If this happens, use it less frequently or stop using it for a few days. If irritation persists, consult your doctor.
• Flamyd V Gel is not recommended for use in patients below 18 years of age

✔️ Indications: Flamyd V Gel

Flamyd V Gel is used for the treatment of women with bacterial overgrowth in the vaginal area. It is characterized by abnormal and foul-smelling discharge, vaginal itching, etc.

✔️ Pharmacology

Metronidazole, an imidazole class antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent, works by metabolically reducing its 5-nitro group by anaerobes. The reduced form of the drug interacts with DNA, leading to bactericidal effects.

✔️ Dosage: Flamyd V Gel

Vaginal Gel:
Administer one applicator full (approximately 5 grams, containing 37.5 mg of metronidazole) intravaginally once or twice a day for 5 days. For once-a-day dosing, use at bedtime.

• Do not apply in larger or smaller quantities than recommended.

• Lithium: Increases lithium toxicity.
• 5-Fluorouracil: May cause increased toxicity.
• Busulfan: This may increase plasma levels of busulfan, leading to severe toxicity.
• Phenobarbital, and Phenytoin: May enhance metabolism, reducing Flamyd V Gel’s effectiveness.

Metronidazole is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to metronidazole or nitroimidazole derivatives.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Metronidazole is classified as Category B by the US FDA. Use during pregnancy should be considered only if necessary. Metronidazole is excreted in human milk, so caution is advised for nursing women.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.
• Long-term use may require monitoring of blood counts and for signs of neuropathy (e.g., paresthesia, ataxia, dizziness, convulsions).
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic encephalopathy or those with hepatic impairment.
• Patients should be informed that the drug may darken urine.
• Monitor patients with liver impairment, as it may lead to drug accumulation.
• Long-term use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection.
