Telmisartan is a non-peptide angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II from binding to its AT1 receptors in blood vessels and adrenal glands. This results in:
✔ Relaxation of blood vessels (reducing blood pressure).
✔ Lowered aldosterone secretion, decreasing sodium and water retention.
✔ Less strain on the heart and kidneys.
Unlike ACE inhibitors, Telmisartan does not affect bradykinin levels and does not interfere with other hormone receptors or ion channels.
Can be taken with or without food
Special Considerations:
Kidney Disease: No dosage adjustment is needed, but monitor dialysis patients closely due to the risk of low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension).
Liver Disease: Dose adjustments may be needed; increase gradually under supervision.
🔹 Not recommended for children (effectiveness and safety not established).
💊 For Hypertension Patients:
💊 For Cardiovascular Risk Reduction:
💥 Possible symptoms include:
🚫 NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin): May reduce the effectiveness of Telmisartan and increase the risk of kidney problems.
🚫 Aliskiren (in diabetic patients): Avoid due to potentially serious complications.
Allergic reactions to Telmisartan or its ingredients.
