How does Lumona Oral Granules work?

• Lumona Oral Granules is used for the long-term management of asthma in adults and children ages 12 months and older
• It is used to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis (outdoor allergies that happen part of the year) in adults and children ages 2 years and older, and perennial allergic rhinitis (indoor allergies that happen all year) in adults and children ages 6 months and older

How to use Lumona Sachet

Lumona comes in various forms such as tablets, DT (disintegrating tablets), chewable tablets, granules, syrup, and suspension. Follow your doctor's instructions on whether to take the Lumona Powder with or without food. To prevent breathing difficulties during exercise, take the medicine 2 hours prior to exercising. For optimal results, take the medicine at the same time every day. It's important not to exceed the prescribed dose and avoid discontinuing the medication unless advised by your doctor. This medicine should not be used to treat sudden asthma attacks. Consult your doctor to determine the appropriate medicine to take in the event of a sudden attack.

• Open the packet only when you are ready to use it.
• Dissolve the granules in 1 teaspoonful (5 mL) of cold or room temperature baby formula or breast milk.
• Ensure that the entire dose is mixed thoroughly with the food or liquid, and give the entire mixture to the child immediately (within 15 minutes).
• Discard any unused portions and do not store any mixed granules for later use.
• Do not mix the oral granules with any liquid drink other than baby formula or breast milk.
• For asthma, take one packet of 4 mg oral granules once daily in the evening, depending on the age of the child.
• For allergic rhinitis, take one packet of 4 mg oral granules once daily at approximately the same time each day, depending on the age of the child and the type of allergic rhinitis.
• If you accidentally take too many Lumona Oral Granules tablets or if someone else has taken your medicine, contact your doctor immediately for medical attention.
• If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is close to the time for your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and do not double up on doses.
• Do not stop taking or lowering the dose of your other asthma medicines unless instructed to do so by your doctor.

Contraindications

Patients who are hypersensitive to any component of Montelukast should avoid using it.

Precautions & Warnings

Limited information is available regarding the use of Montelukast in pregnant women, and there have been no adequate and well-controlled trials conducted. Therefore, Montelukast should only be taken during pregnancy if it is determined to be absolutely necessary by a healthcare professional.

Montelukast is known to be excreted in breast milk, so caution should be exercised when administering it to nursing women. It is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before using Montelukast while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Montelukast is not suitable for reversing bronchospasm during acute asthma episodes, including status asthmaticus. It is important to note that the use of Montelukast has been associated with potential neuropsychiatric events. These events can include agitation, anger, anxiety, depression, disorientation, attention disturbances, abnormal dreams, hallucinations, insomnia, irritability, memory impairment, restlessness, sleepwalking, and thoughts or behaviors related to self-harm or suicide. If you experience any of these symptoms while taking Montelukast, it is crucial to inform your healthcare provider immediately. Lumona Oral Granules is not recommended for use by children less than two years of age.
