Dulamet 200 HFA provides ease in breathing from bronchospasm (constricted airway muscles), where (Mometasone Furoate + Formoterol Fumarate) work together to relax airway muscles which results in the widening of airways providing relief from obstructive airflow and ease in breathing from bronchospasm associated with reversible obstructive airway diseases (such as asthma, COPD) in affected individuals.

How to use Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler

• Check the label for directions before use.
• Shake the inhaler.
• While you are breathing in from your mouth, press down on the inhaler one time to release the medication and hold your breath for 10 seconds.
• Repeat until you have inhaled the number of puffs as suggested by the doctor.
• Afterward, rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and spit it out.

What if you forget to take Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler

If you miss a dose of Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Pharmacology

Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler contains two medications: Mometasone (corticosteroid) and Formoterol. (LABA - long-acting beta-agonists or bronchodilator). Mometasone works by working inside the nasal tube and airway lining cells to prevent the release of specific substances that cause inflammatory responses and allergies. As a result, it relieves sneezing, runny or clogged nose, and sinus discomfort. Formoterol relaxes and expands the muscles of the respiratory airways, making it simpler for asthma and COPD patients to breathe.

Dosage of Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler

Adults (including the elderly): 

• The usual starting dose is 200 micrograms twice a day. In more severe cases the starting dose may need to increase to 600 to 800 micrograms per day which may then be reduced when the patient's asthma has stabilized. The total daily dose may be administered as two, three, or four divided doses.

Children:

• 50 to 100 micrograms should be given two, three, or four times daily in accordance with the response. Alternatively, 100 micrograms or 200 micrograms twice daily should be given. The usual starting dose is 100 micrograms twice daily. Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler is not recommended for children.

Administrations of Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler

Inhaler: 

• Hold the inhaler with the mouthpiece downwards.
• Put the mouthpiece between your teeth and seal the lips around it.
• Then, press down the inhaler once to release the medication. Breathe in slowly and hold your breath for 5 to 10 seconds.
• Breathe out slowly.
• Repeat the process until you have inhaled the number of puffs prescribed by the doctor.

Respicaps/Rotacaps: 

• It is for inhalation only.
• Do not swallow the capsule.
• The capsule should be placed at the base of the rota haler/respirator and completely twist the mouthpiece until you hear a click sound.
• Then, breathe in through the mouthpiece deeply and hold your breath for 10 seconds.
• Remove the device and breathe out normally.

Interactions

Increased risk of hypokalaemia with amphotericin B, potassium-wasting diuretics. Decreases hypoglycaemic effects of antidiabetic drugs. Increased serum levels with antifungals (imidazole). Increased risk of tendinopathies with fluoroquinolones.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the components. Special care is necessary for patients with active or quiescent pulmonary tuberculosis.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• The safety of Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler in pregnant women is unknown. Therefore, it is given to pregnant women only if the doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks.
• It is unknown whether Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler is excreted in human milk. It is given to breastfeeding mothers only if the doctor thinks the benefits are greater than the risks.

Precautions & Warnings

• You are advised to rinse your mouth with water after each dose of Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler because it not only removes the taste of medicine inhaled but also helps to avoid fungal infections in the mouth and throat. After rinsing your mouth thoroughly, you may drink water, milk, or any liquids.
• Regularly monitor your blood potassium level, as Dulamet 200 HFA Inhaler may cause a decrease in potassium levels in the body.
• Always maintain an emergency inhaler for sudden asthma attacks.
• Regular eye checks such asDulamet 200 HFA Inhaler may cause an increase in eye pressure in patients with glaucoma.

Storage Conditions

The Inhaler should be stored below 30° C, and protected from direct sunlight and heat. The canister should not be broken, punctured, or burnt, even when apparently empty. Keep away from eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
