Neurolin CR is prescribed for:
- Neuropathic pain related to diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
- Postherpetic neuralgia.
- Adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in patients aged 1 month and older.
- Fibromyalgia.
- Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury.
How It Works
Dosage & Administration
- Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: Start at 50 mg thrice daily, increasing to a max of 300 mg/day. CR tablets start at 165 mg once daily, increasing to 330 mg/day.
- Postherpetic Neuralgia: Begin at 75-150 mg twice daily or 50-100 mg thrice daily, adjustable to 600 mg/day. CR tablets can go up to 660 mg/day if needed.
- Fibromyalgia: Start with 75 mg twice daily (150 mg/day), with adjustments up to 450 mg/day.
- Spinal Cord Injury Pain: Begin at 75 mg twice daily (150 mg/day), adjustable to a max of 600 mg/day.
- Seizures: Pediatric doses vary based on weight and individual requirements.
Note: CR tablets should be taken after an evening meal, swallowed whole, and not split or crushed.
Common Side Effects
- Dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, and somnolence.
- In pediatric cases: increased appetite and weight gain.
Special Warnings
- Discontinue immediately if angioedema (throat swelling) or hypersensitivity occurs.
- Risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior – monitor patients closely.
- May cause respiratory depression when combined with CNS depressants.
- Gradual tapering over at least one week is essential when stopping the medication to prevent adverse effects.
