How does Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet work?

Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet comprises Empagliflozin and Linagliptin. Empagliflozin functions by eliminating surplus sugar via urine, while Linagliptin enhances insulin release from the pancreas and boosts specific hormones to regulate blood sugar levels.

Side Effects of Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Upper respiratory tract infections
  • Frequent urination
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
Quick Suggestions:
  • Your doctor has prescribed you this combined medication to achieve better blood sugar control than using each component separately. This treatment approach may also help lower the risk of heart-related issues such as heart attack or heart failure.
  • Remember to maintain a regular exercise routine, follow a healthy diet, and take any other prescribed diabetes medications along with Empagliflozin + Linagliptin.
  • To minimize the possibility of stomach upset, take the medication with food. To prevent yeast or urinary tract infections, practice proper genital hygiene.
  • Be aware that this medication might lead to increased urination or dehydration. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and be cautious when standing up after sitting or lying down.
  • Empagliflozin + Linagliptin can cause low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) when used with other diabetes drugs, alcohol, or if meals are skipped. Keep an eye on your blood sugar levels regularly. Carry sugary snacks or fruit juice to counter hypoglycemia symptoms like pale skin, sweating, trembling, and anxiety.
  • If you experience joint pains or symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting, stop taking Empagliflozin + Linagliptin and promptly inform your doctor.
Indication of Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet

Type II Diabetes Mellitus results from elevated levels of blood sugar caused by a combination of reduced insulin production and decreased responsiveness of the body to insulin. Insulin is the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels. Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet, when taken as part of a balanced diet and exercise plan, helps lower blood sugar levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, it mitigates the risk of heart complications in those suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Pharmacology

Adlina EM 10/50mg Tablet is comprised of Empagliflozin and Linagliptin. This combination aids in managing elevated blood sugar levels, thereby averting potential kidney damage, vision impairment, nerve complications, limb loss, and sexual function issues. Effective diabetes management can also mitigate the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Empagliflozin facilitates the increased elimination of sugar via the kidneys, while Linagliptin heightens the presence of natural substances known as incretins. Incretins play a role in blood sugar regulation by augmenting insulin secretion, particularly post-meals, and reducing the liver's production of sugar. From a pharmacological standpoint, this combination of medications acts to maintain healthier blood sugar levels and minimize associated risks.

Dosage & Administration of Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet

The recommended dose of Linagliptin is 5mg once daily. When used in combination with metformin, the metformin dose should be maintained while administering Linagliptin. When Linagliptin is combined with sulphonylurea or insulin, a lower dose of the sulphonylurea or insulin may be considered to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.

For patients with renal impairment, no dose adjustment for Linagliptin is needed. While pharmacokinetic studies suggest no dose adjustment is required for patients with hepatic impairment, clinical experience in such cases is limited. Elderly patients generally do not require dose adjustment based on age, but caution should be exercised in those over 80 years old.

It's important to note that the safety and efficacy of Linagliptin in children and adolescents have not been established. Linagliptin can be taken with or without food at any time of the day. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered, but a double dose should not be taken on the same day.

When taking Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet, follow your physician's advice. Swallow the medicine with water, without crushing or chewing it. You can take Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet with or without meals.

Remember that your doctor will determine the appropriate dose and treatment duration based on factors such as age, body weight, and medical condition. Do not discontinue taking Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet without your doctor's guidance.

Interaction

Drug Interactions: Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet may interact with Beta-blocker medications (e.g. metoprolol, propranolol), glaucoma eye drops like timolol, Antidiabetic drugs (such as glimepiride and insulin glargine), and antimanic agents (lithium).

Food Interactions: Consumption of excessive alcohol could heighten the risk of a severe condition called Lactic Acidosis. Therefore, it's advisable to avoid alcoholic beverages while on Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet.

Disease Interactions: Exercise caution if you have conditions like pancreatitis, lactic acidosis, cardiovascular risk, hypoglycemia, or B12 deficiency while taking Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet.

Contraindications

Do not take Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablets if you are allergic to empagliflozin, linagliptin, or any other ingredient of the medication. Also, if you are allergic to any other sodium-glucose-cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors (such as dapagliflozin, canagliflozin, ertugliflozin, remogliflozin, tofogliflozin) or dipeptidyl-peptidase 4 (DPP4) inhibitors (such as sitagliptin, saxagliptin), refrain from taking Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablets. If you're unsure about these medications, consult your doctor for clarification.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Linagliptin has not been thoroughly studied in pregnant women. To err on the side of caution, it's advisable to avoid using Linagliptin during pregnancy. Additionally, the potential risk to a breastfeeding child cannot be ruled out. A decision should be made by considering whether to cease breastfeeding or discontinue Linagliptin therapy, weighing the benefits of breastfeeding for the child against the benefits of the therapy for the woman. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional when making this decision.

Precautions & Warnings

Before using Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet, make sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist about any allergies you have, especially to empagliflozin or Linagliptin, as the product might contain inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or other issues. Remember that even if you start feeling better, you should not stop taking Adlina EM 10/5mg Tablet without consulting your doctor, as blood sugar levels fluctuate. Abruptly discontinuing the medication might lead to increased sugar levels, raising the risk of complications like retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy. This medication is not suitable for type 1 diabetes or severe kidney/liver disease. Notify your doctor if you have heart disease, are pregnant, or planning to breastfeed. Stressful situations like fever, infections, injuries, or surgeries can make blood sugar harder to control. If you're eating less due to illness, this might lead to elevated ketone levels, requiring adjustments to your treatment plan. Inform your healthcare provider about all products you use before undergoing surgery or dental procedures.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
