How to use Rosutin 5

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Rosutin 5 may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

How Rosutin 5 works

A lipid-lowering drug is Rosutin 5. (statin). It functions by inhibiting an enzyme called HMG-CoA-reductase, which the body needs to produce cholesterol. This lowers "bad" cholesterol (LDL), and triglycerides, and raises "good" cholesterol (HDL).

What if you forget to take Rosutin 5?

If you miss a dose of Rosutin 5, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses within 12 hours.

• Take the pills precisely as prescribed by your doctor.
• One pill per day should be taken orally. Completely inhale the pill.
  The pills can be consumed with or without meals at any time during the day.
• Even if you feel OK, do not modify your dosage or stop taking this medicine without first consulting your doctor.
• In order to monitor your cholesterol levels both before and throughout your rosuvastatin medication, your doctor may do blood tests. Should it be necessary, your doctor could adjust your dosage.
• Before prescribing rosuvastatin, your doctor may have you start a diet to decrease your cholesterol. When using this medicine, continue the diet.

Pharmacology

HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme that turns 3-hydroxy-3-methyl glutaryl coenzyme A into mevalonate, a precursor to cholesterol, is selectively and aggressively inhibited by rosuvastatin. There are two ways that rosuvastatin uses its lipid-modifying abilities. It improves LDL absorption and catabolism by first increasing the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell surface. Second, rosuvastatin reduces total levels of VLDL and LDL particles by inhibiting hepatic VLDL production.

Dosage of Rosuva 5mg

• 5 to 40 mg administered once daily. When a patient doesn't meet their LDL-C goal after taking 20 mg, only use 40 mg.
• HoFH: 20 mg/day as a starting dose.
• Patients with HeFH in children should take 5–10 mg per day if they are 8–10 years old, and 5–20 mg per day if they are 10–17 years old.
• Patients aged 7 to 17 who have HoFH should take 20 mg per day.

Rosuvastatin can be taken with or without food, at any time of day.

Interaction of Rosutin 5

• Rosuvastatin has a number of notable medication interactions.
• Cyclosporine and rosuvastatin together increase the exposure to rosuvastatin. Rosuvastatin should only be taken in doses of 5 mg once daily.
• Gemfibrozil should not be combined with. If taken concurrently, rosuvastatin dosage should be decreased to 10 mg once daily.
• Rosuvastatin exposure is increased when lopinavir and ritonavir or atazanavir and ritonavir are combined. 10 mg of rosuvastatin should be taken once daily.
• Anticoagulant coumarins: The combination raises the globally standardized ratio (INR). INR should be stable before starting Rosuvastatin.
• The INR should be monitored frequently when starting or stopping Rosuvastatin therapy until it reaches a stable level.
• Combining fibrates and niacin products with concurrent lipid-lowering therapies increases the risk of adverse effects on the skeletal muscle.

Contraindications

Rosuvastatin should be avoided if you have any of the following conditions:

• Liver illness, characterized by unexplained chronic increases in hepatic transaminase levels
• Hypersensitivity to product components is known.
• Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant
• Mothers who are breastfeeding

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnant women's safety has not been demonstrated.
• It is unknown whether or not Rosuvastatin is excreted in human milk.

Precautions & Warnings

• Myopathy and rhabdomyolysis, for example, effect on the skeletal muscles: The risks increase with the use of a dosage of 40 mg, advanced age (>65 years), hypothyroidism, renal impairment, and use in combination with cyclosporine, lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir, or other lipid-lowering drugs. Patients should be advised to notify their doctor as soon as they experience any unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or discomfort. Rosuvastatin may be stopped if warning signs or symptoms appear.
• Hepatic transaminases may develop into persistent increases in abnormal liver enzyme levels.
• Liver enzyme levels should be checked before and during treatment.
