Pharmacology

Paracetamol is an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory medication. Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) is thought to function primarily in the CNS, boosting pain threshold by inhibiting both isoforms of the cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1, COX-2, and COX-3, which are involved in prostaglandin (PG) synthesis. Paracetamol is an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory para aminophenol derivative. Paracetamol is one of the most regularly used, safest, and quickest-acting analgesics. It is well tolerated and free of the various side effects associated with aspirin.

Dosage of Napa Paediatric Drops

• Children under the age of three months: 10 mg/kg body weight (reduced to 5 mg/kg if jaundiced). 3–4 times every day.
• 12 to 1 teaspoonful 3 to 4 times daily from 3 months to less than a year.
• 1–2 teaspoons for children aged 1–5 years 3–4 times every day.
• 2 teaspoons (6-12 years) 3–4 times every day.
• 4-8 teaspoons for adults 3–4 times every day.

Administration of Napa Paediatric Drops

• Shake the bottle well before use. Take the suggested dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.
• Follow your doctor's instructions when administering Napa Paediatric Drops to your child. This medicine should only be taken orally. Use the dropper provided to slowly give the prescribed dosage to your child's inner cheeks. For children aged 2-3 months, give 0.6 to 0.8 ml, for 3 to 9 months give 0.8 to 1.2 ml, and for 9 to 12 months give 1.2 to 1.5 ml. The minimum time interval between doses should be 4 hours. Napa Paediatric Drops should not be used in children with severe liver impairment and should be used with caution in children with impaired kidney or liver function. This medicine should not be used in children younger than 1 month of age. Before using Napa Paediatric Drops, inform your doctor of any prescription, non-prescription, or herbal medications your child may be taking.

Interaction

• Blood thinners (warfarin), cholesterol-lowering drugs (cholestyramine), analgesics (aspirin), antibiotics (chloramphenicol, rifampicin), anti-gout medications (probenecid), antitubercular drugs (isoniazid), anticonvulsants (lamotrigine, carbamazepine, phenytoin), and anti-nausea agents may interact. (metoclopramide, domperidone).
• Napa Paediatric Drops may have an effect on St. John's wort (herbal medicine to treat depression).  Napa Paediatric Drops may interact with meals high in carbs and pectins, such as jellies, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli. Also, avoid alcohol consumption since it may raise the risk of liver damage.
• Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver illness, hepatitis, Gilbert's syndrome (a liver ailment), hemolytic anemia (abnormal breakdown of red blood cells), G-6-PD deficiency (a genetic condition leading to low red blood cell counts), or blood poisoning. 

Contraindications

It is contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to Paracetamol.
