Cyporin DS 0.1% Eye Drops 5ml

Generic: Others

Type: Drop

Pack Size: 1 Pc

Cyclopentolate is an anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) agent. When applied to the eye, it blocks muscarinic receptors in the iris sphincter and ciliary muscle.

This produces:

  • Mydriasis: dilation of the pupil
  • Cycloplegia: temporary paralysis of the ciliary muscle, preventing the eye from focusing on nearby objects

Cyclopentolate generally has a shorter duration of action than atropine, making it useful for diagnostic ophthalmic examinations.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Adults – Mydriasis and Cycloplegia

Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s). The dose may be repeated after 5–15 minutes as directed by the ophthalmologist.

Children – Mydriasis and Cycloplegia

Instill 1–2 drops of the prescribed solution into the affected eye(s), with a repeat dose after 5–15 minutes if required.

The dose and concentration should be determined by the ophthalmologist according to the child's age and clinical requirement.

Infants below 3 months: Cyclopentolate is generally not recommended unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy

Cyclopentolate should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed and when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Lactation

It is not established whether cyclopentolate is excreted into human breast milk. Use during breastfeeding should be based on a healthcare professional's assessment of the potential benefits and risks.

✔️ Interaction

Cyclopentolate may have additive anticholinergic or central nervous system effects when used with other medicines having similar properties.

Potential interactions may occur with:

  • Other antimuscarinic/anticholinergic medicines
  • Certain antihistamines
  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Antipsychotic medicines with anticholinergic properties
  • Other medicines that can cause central nervous system depression

Patients should inform their doctor about all medicines they are taking before receiving cyclopentolate, particularly when the patient is a child or is receiving multiple medicines.

✔️ How to Use
  1. Wash your hands before applying the eye drops.
  2. Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
  3. Hold the dropper close to the eye without allowing the tip to touch the eye, eyelid, eyelashes, or any other surface.
  4. Instill the prescribed number of drops into the lower eyelid pocket.
  5. Close the eye gently after application.
  6. Apply gentle pressure to the inner corner of the eye, near the nose, for approximately 1 minute to reduce systemic absorption.
  7. Wipe away any excess liquid with a clean tissue.
  8. If another eye medicine is prescribed, wait at least 5–10 minutes before applying it.

Do not touch or contaminate the dropper tip.

✔️ Side Effects

Common or reported side effects may include:

Eye-related

  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Eye irritation
  • Itching
  • Foreign-body sensation
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty focusing
  • Increased sensitivity to light
  • Conjunctival irritation
  • Increased intraocular pressure

Systemic Effects

Rarely, particularly after excessive absorption, systemic anticholinergic effects may occur, including:

  • Drowsiness
  • Increased heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Dry mouth
  • Flushing
  • Behavioral or central nervous system effects, particularly in children
✔️ Cyporin DS should not be used in patients with:
  • Known hypersensitivity to cyclopentolate or any component of the formulation
  • Narrow anterior chamber angles or a predisposition to angle-closure glaucoma
  • Certain forms of glaucoma where pupil dilation may precipitate an acute attack

Use in children younger than 3 months is generally avoided unless specifically directed by an ophthalmologist.

Extra caution is required in young children and patients with neurological disorders because systemic absorption of cyclopentolate may produce central nervous system effects.

✔️ Storage:
  • Store according to the product label.
  • Keep in a cool, dry place and protect from excessive heat and light.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do not use the medicine if the solution becomes visibly contaminated, discolored, or otherwise abnormal.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
  • Cyporin DS is for ophthalmic use only and must not be swallowed.
  • Cyclopentolate causes temporary blurred vision and difficulty focusing.
  • It can make the eyes more sensitive to sunlight and bright light. Wearing sunglasses may improve comfort.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until vision has returned to normal.
  • The effects of pupil dilation and cycloplegia may persist for several hours and, in some individuals, may last up to 24 hours.
  • Use with caution in patients with glaucoma or a tendency toward angle-closure glaucoma.
  • Children may be more susceptible to systemic effects. Use the minimum effective dose and follow the ophthalmologist's instructions.
  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or surrounding surfaces to prevent contamination.
  • If the product contains benzalkonium chloride, soft contact lenses should generally be removed before administration and may be replaced after the recommended interval according to the product instructions.
✔️ Storage:

Keep out of the reach of children. Keep in a cool and dry place, away from light. Do not use more than 4 weeks after opening

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

For diagnostic eye examinations, cyclopentolate is usually administered according to a specific schedule by the patient, parent, caregiver, or healthcare professional. If a prescribed dose is missed, administer it as soon as remembered unless it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose. Do not use a double dose to compensate for a missed dose.
