Cyclopentolate is an anticholinergic (antimuscarinic) agent. When applied to the eye, it blocks muscarinic receptors in the iris sphincter and ciliary muscle.
This produces:
Cyclopentolate generally has a shorter duration of action than atropine, making it useful for diagnostic ophthalmic examinations.

Cyporin DS 5 mL contains cyclopentolate, an anticholinergic ophthalmic medicine used to produce temporary mydriasis (pupil dilation) and cycloplegia (temporary paralysis of accommodation).
It is indicated for:
It may also be used to reduce pain and inflammation associated with certain inflammatory eye conditions, as directed by an ophthalmologist.
Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s). The dose may be repeated after 5–15 minutes as directed by the ophthalmologist.
Instill 1–2 drops of the prescribed solution into the affected eye(s), with a repeat dose after 5–15 minutes if required.
The dose and concentration should be determined by the ophthalmologist according to the child's age and clinical requirement.
Infants below 3 months: Cyclopentolate is generally not recommended unless specifically prescribed by a specialist.
Cyclopentolate should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed and when prescribed by a healthcare professional.
It is not established whether cyclopentolate is excreted into human breast milk. Use during breastfeeding should be based on a healthcare professional's assessment of the potential benefits and risks.
Cyclopentolate may have additive anticholinergic or central nervous system effects when used with other medicines having similar properties.
Potential interactions may occur with:
Patients should inform their doctor about all medicines they are taking before receiving cyclopentolate, particularly when the patient is a child or is receiving multiple medicines.
Do not touch or contaminate the dropper tip.
Common or reported side effects may include:
Rarely, particularly after excessive absorption, systemic anticholinergic effects may occur, including:
Use in children younger than 3 months is generally avoided unless specifically directed by an ophthalmologist.
Extra caution is required in young children and patients with neurological disorders because systemic absorption of cyclopentolate may produce central nervous system effects.
Keep out of the reach of children. Keep in a cool and dry place, away from light. Do not use more than 4 weeks after opening
