Loxodol is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term management of acute mild to moderate pain. It also helps reduce pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
For acute pain:
The usual total daily dose is 8–16 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses. The maximum recommended daily dose is 16 mg.
For osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis:
The usual starting dose is 12 mg per day, divided into 2 or 3 doses. The maintenance dose should not exceed 16 mg per day.
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration needed to control symptoms.
Lornoxicam is generally not recommended for patients below 18 years of age because adequate safety and efficacy data are unavailable.
Patients over 65 years generally do not require a specific dose adjustment. However, extra caution is advised because older adults may be more vulnerable to gastrointestinal complications and other NSAID-related adverse effects.
In patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, the maximum recommended daily dose is 12 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses. Medical monitoring may be required.
For patients with moderate hepatic impairment, the maximum recommended daily dose is 12 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses. Severe hepatic impairment requires avoidance of the medicine.
NSAIDs may also worsen conditions such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease in susceptible individuals. Serious gastrointestinal complications can occasionally be life-threatening, particularly in older adults.
Lornoxicam belongs to the oxicam group of NSAIDs. It works primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which reduces the production of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation.
By lowering prostaglandin production, lornoxicam helps reduce the sensitivity of pain receptors and decreases inflammatory symptoms such as pain and swelling.
NSAIDs such as lornoxicam can commonly cause gastrointestinal side effects, including:
More serious gastrointestinal complications may occur, including:
Loxodol may interact with several medicines, potentially increasing adverse effects or reducing the effectiveness of other treatments.
Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking before starting treatment.
Loxodol should not be used during the third trimester of pregnancy. Its use during the first and second trimesters should also be avoided unless specifically considered necessary by a doctor because sufficient clinical safety data are unavailable.
There is insufficient information regarding the excretion of lornoxicam into human breast milk. Since animal studies indicate that it can pass into milk, its use during breastfeeding is generally not recommended.
Women undergoing fertility treatment should inform their doctor before using lornoxicam because NSAIDs may affect fertility in some women.
Patients should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest appropriate duration to reduce the risk of NSAID-related complications.
