Bisopro 5, a combination of Bisoprolol and Amlodipine, is used to treat hypertension in patients who respond well to these individual medications taken together in separate tablets.
Pharmacology
Bisoprolol Hemi Fumarate is a highly selective β1 blocker, targeting β1 adrenergic receptors in the heart and blood vessels. This selectivity reduces heart rate and cardiac output, lowering arterial blood pressure. Unlike non-selective β-blockers, Bisoprolol does not adversely affect lipid profiles or HDL-cholesterol.
Dosage & Administration
- Hypertension: Start with 5 mg once daily. If needed, increase to 10 mg, and then to 20 mg daily.
- Angina: Typically 10 mg once daily, with a maximum of 20 mg daily. Some patients may only need 5 mg.
- Heart Failure: Begin with 1.25 mg once daily, gradually increasing to 10 mg daily, based on tolerance.
Interactions
Avoid combining Bisopro 5 with other β-blockers.
Contraindications
Do not use in patients with cardiogenic shock, overt heart failure, second- or third-degree A-V block, right ventricular failure due to pulmonary hypertension, or sinus bradycardia.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, bradycardia, hypotension, headache, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, vertigo, thrombocytopenia, visual disturbances, and alopecia.
Pregnancy & Lactation
The safety of Bisopro 5 during pregnancy is not established, and there is no available data for lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Regular monitoring of renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic functions is advised during long-term treatment.
