✔️ Indication of Sergel 40mg Capsule

A medication called Sergel 40mg Capsule lowers the amount of acid your stomach produces. Heartburn, acid reflux, and issues with your food pipe are all treated with it. Stomach ulcers can also be prevented and treated with it. 

✔️ Pharmacology

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specific inhibition of the H+/K+ ATPase in the gastric parietal cell. Esomeprazole (S-isomer of omeprazole) is the first single optical isomer of proton pump inhibitors and provides better acid control than racemic proton pump inhibitors.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Sergel 40mg Capsule

• Healing of erosive esophagitis: 20 mg or 40 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. The majority of patients are healed within 4 to 8 weeks. For patients who do not heal after 4-8 weeks, an additional 4-8 weeks of treatment may be considered.
• Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. Controlled studies did not extend beyond six months.
• Symptomatic GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks. If symptoms do not resolve completely after 4 weeks, an additional 4 weeks of treatment may be considered.
• H.pylori eradication (Triple therapy): Esomeprazole 20 mg twice daily for 10 days, Amoxicillin 1000 mg Twice daily for 10 days, and Clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily for 10 days

Take Sergel 40mg Capsule as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. It must be taken during or just after meals. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and severity of infection. Do not stop therapy or skip doses in between the therapy to achieve better control over the infection.

Esomeprazole, being a selective inhibitor of the cytochrome P450 mono-oxygenase system, may have an impact on hepatic clearance. However, there have been no clinically significant interactions reported thus far. The effect of Esomeprazole on the oral combined contraceptive pill is still uncertain. It is likely that similar physiological changes observed with omeprazole, such as the reduction in gastric acid, may occur with Esomeprazole. These changes can potentially affect bacterial colonization in the stomach and duodenum, as well as the absorption of vitamin B12.
