Itopa-50 Tablet contains Itopride Hydrochloride 50 mg and is a gastrointestinal medicine used to relieve digestive symptoms associated with chronic gastritis and impaired gastric motility. It may help reduce symptoms such as abdominal fullness or bloating, upper abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.
Itopa-50 improves the movement of food through the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. It should be taken according to the dose prescribed by a doctor, preferably before meals.
Adults:
The usual adult dose is 50 mg three times daily, preferably taken before meals. Depending on the patient's age, symptoms, and response to treatment, the doctor may reduce the dose.
Elderly patients:
Older adults may be more susceptible to adverse effects due to age-related changes in physiological function. They should therefore be monitored carefully, and the dose may need to be reduced or treatment discontinued if significant adverse reactions occur.
Children and adolescents:
The safety and effectiveness of itopride have not been adequately established in patients below 18 years of age. Therefore, its use in this age group is generally not recommended.
Itopride Hydrochloride works through two complementary mechanisms. It blocks dopamine D2 receptors and inhibits acetylcholinesterase, which increases the availability of acetylcholine in the gastrointestinal tract.
The increased acetylcholine enhances gastrointestinal contractions, increases lower esophageal sphincter pressure, promotes stomach movement, accelerates gastric emptying, and improves coordination between the stomach and duodenum.
Itopa-50 may interact with medicines that have anticholinergic effects, such as:
These medicines may reduce the gastrointestinal motility-enhancing effect of itopride because they oppose acetylcholine-mediated activity in the digestive tract.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines, supplements, and herbal products you are taking before starting Itopa-50.
Take Itopa-50 exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is preferably taken before meals. Do not take it continuously for a prolonged period if your symptoms do not improve without consulting your doctor.
If the medicine is supplied in a press-through blister package, remove the tablet completely from the packaging before swallowing. Never swallow the blister or any part of it.
The safety of itopride during pregnancy has not been firmly established. It should only be used during pregnancy when the expected therapeutic benefit clearly outweighs the potential risks and when recommended by a doctor.
There is insufficient information regarding the presence and effects of itopride in human breast milk. Therefore, its use during breastfeeding is generally not recommended unless specifically advised by a healthcare professional.
Itopa-50 enhances the action of acetylcholine and should therefore be used carefully in patients who may be particularly sensitive to cholinergic effects.
If gastrointestinal symptoms do not improve with treatment, do not continue taking the medicine for an extended period without medical evaluation.
Patients who develop symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction or jaundice should discontinue the medicine and seek medical advice as directed by their doctor.
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.
