✔️ Uses of Esocon MUPS 40

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Heartburn and acid-related indigestion
• Peptic ulcer disease
• Erosive esophagitis
• Zollinger–Ellison syndrome
• Prevention of certain stomach ulcers associated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), when prescribed

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Available evidence has not established a clear increase in major birth defects with omeprazole exposure during early pregnancy, but data specifically for esomeprazole are limited. Use during pregnancy only when recommended by a healthcare professional.

Small amounts of omeprazole may pass into breast milk, but information about esomeprazole's effects on breastfed infants and milk production is limited. Discuss the benefits and potential risks with your doctor before using this medicine while breastfeeding.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

• Adult Dose: The dose depends on the indication. Common adult regimens may include 20 mg once daily for symptomatic GERD and 20–40 mg once daily for erosive esophagitis, generally for 4–8 weeks. Other conditions require different regimens. A 40 mg tablet should not automatically be used for every indication; follow the dose prescribed by your doctor.
• Pediatric Dose: Dosing depends on the child's age, weight, diagnosis, and formulation. Use only under medical supervision.
• Renal Impairment: Dose adjustment is generally not required in renal impairment. Medical supervision is still necessary.
• Hepatic Impairment: Patients with severe hepatic impairment may require a lower maximum dose. Follow the prescribing information and your doctor's advice.

Administration: Usually taken before meals. Follow the specific instructions for the MUPS formulation.

✔️ Storage ConditionEsomeprazole may interact with several medicines, including:

• Clopidogrel: May reduce the antiplatelet effect of clopidogrel.
• Atazanavir, nelfinavir, and rilpivirine: Reduced stomach acidity may decrease absorption and effectiveness; some combinations should be avoided.
• Warfarin: May increase INR and the risk of bleeding in some patients.
• Digoxin: May increase the risk of digoxin-related adverse effects, particularly when magnesium levels are low.
• Diuretics: May increase the risk of low magnesium levels during prolonged treatment.
• Tacrolimus: May increase tacrolimus concentrations in some patients.
• Methotrexate: May increase methotrexate exposure, particularly with high-dose treatment.
• Diazepam: May affect the metabolism and clearance of diazepam.
• Ketoconazole, erlotinib, and iron salts: Reduced stomach acidity may decrease the absorption of some formulations.
• Certain HIV medicines: Interactions may reduce the effectiveness of the HIV treatment.

✔️ Contraindications:

Known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.

✔️ Safety Information:

Use cautiously in patients with severe liver disease, suspected gastric malignancy, osteoporosis, or a history of low magnesium. Persistent symptoms or alarm features such as difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, vomiting blood, or black stools require prompt medical assessment.
