• Fexofenadine may cause less sleepiness as a side effect compared to other similar medicines.

• Avoid using antacids 30 minutes before or after taking this medicine. It can make it harder for your body to absorb this medicine.
• Never give medicine to someone who seems to be suffering from a similar illness. This medicine should be taken only if prescribed by a doctor.

Indication

Fenadin Suspension is indicated for the following in children:

Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis: It provides relief from symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis in children aged 2 to 11 years. Seasonal allergic rhinitis is characterized by nasal symptoms such as stuffiness, runny nose, sneezing, and itching, triggered by exposure to airborne allergens like pollen.

Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: It treats uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria in children aged 6 months to 11 years. Chronic idiopathic urticaria is a skin condition characterized by raised, itchy wheals on the skin with no identifiable cause.

Fenadin Suspension helps alleviate these symptoms and skin manifestations in children within the specified age ranges, making it a useful medication for managing allergic rhinitis and urticaria in pediatric patients. Always use the medication as prescribed by a healthcare provider and follow their instructions for safe and effective use in children.

Pharmacology

The antihistamine fexofenadine hydrochloride works by obstructing peripheral H1 receptors. It is quickly absorbed after oral administration and reaches its peak plasma concentration in two to three hours. The blood-brain barrier doesn't seem to be able to stop it from entering.

Dosage & Administration of Fenadin Suspension

For idiopathic chronic urticaria and seasonal allergic rhinitis, the dosages of Fenadin Suspension  are as follows:

For those over the age of 12 and adults:

• 120 mg once daily
• 180 mg once daily
• 60 mg twice daily
• When renal function is compromised, take 60 mg once a day.

For children aged 6 to 11:

• 30 mg twice daily or 60 mg once daily in a tablet
• If renal function is impaired, take 30 mg once a day.

For children aged six months to under two years:

• 15 mg or 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) twice daily in suspension
• If renal function is impaired, take 15 mg or 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) once daily.

For children aged 2 to 11:

• 30 mg or 5 ml (1 tsp) twice daily in suspension
• If renal function is impaired, take 30 mg or 5 ml (1 tsp) once daily.

Interaction

Interactions with Other Medicines:

Pregnancy & Lactation

US FDA pregnancy category of Fexofenadine Hydrochloride is C. So, Fexofenadine Hydrochloride should be avoided in pregnancy and lactation unless the potential benefits to the other outweigh the possible risks to the fetus.

Precautions & Warnings

• Your child has or has liver or kidney disease.
• Your child is suffering from heart disease.
• Shake the Fenadin Suspension bottle well, before each use.
• Caution is advised when using the medication in patients with impaired kidney function.
• The use of the medication is not recommended during pregnancy.
• The medication's excretion in breast milk is unknown; therefore, it should be used with caution during breastfeeding.
• Fenadin Suspension should not be used in children under the age of 6.
