✅ Description:
Ipsavent Nebuliser Solution contains two bronchodilators: Salbutamol Sulphate and Ipratropium Bromide.
Salbutamol is a selective β₂-adrenergic agonist that relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, providing rapid relief from bronchoconstriction.
Ipratropium Bromide is an anticholinergic agent that inhibits vagally mediated bronchoconstriction by blocking muscarinic receptors in the airways.
The combined action produces synergistic bronchodilation, offering greater efficacy than either agent alone, without increasing adverse effects.
Ipratropium Bromide has minimal systemic absorption following inhalation (<10%) and does not cross the blood–brain barrier.
Salbutamol is rapidly absorbed, with peak plasma levels occurring within 3 hours. It is excreted unchanged in urine and has an elimination half-life of approximately 4 hours.
Co-nebulisation does not increase systemic absorption, and therapeutic benefit results primarily from local pulmonary effects.
- Adults (including elderly): One 3 ml ampoule via nebuliser four times daily
- Up to two additional doses may be used if required
- Children: Dose to be determined by the physician
- Administer using a suitable nebuliser or intermittent positive pressure ventilator.

Common adverse effects include tremor, nervousness, headache, dizziness, tachycardia, palpitations, dry mouth, and cough.
Rare but serious effects include hypokalaemia, arrhythmias, paradoxical bronchospasm, urinary retention, and ocular complications if aerosol contacts the eyes.

- Twist off the ampoule cap while holding upright
- Empty the required amount into the nebuliser chamber

- Increased adverse effects with other β-agonists, anticholinergics, or xanthine derivatives
- Risk of hypokalaemia with corticosteroids, diuretics, or xanthines
- Reduced bronchodilator effect with beta-blockers
- Caution with MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, digoxin, and halogenated anaesthetics
