How does Comprid XR 30work?

It works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas to lower blood sugar levels.

Side Effects of Comprid XR 30

Low blood sugar, liver disorders, skin reactions, blood disorders, digestive issues, and temporary vision changes. 

Report any adverse effects promptly.

Quick Suggestions:

• Take it shortly before or with your first main meal, usually breakfast. Avoid skipping meals.
• Be cautious when driving or operating machinery until you understand how Gliclazide affects you.
• Gliclazide may cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or if meals are delayed or missed.
• Always carry sugary food or fruit juice in case you experience hypoglycemic symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremors, and anxiety.
• Your doctor may monitor your liver function regularly. Inform them if you experience symptoms like abdominal pain, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).

Indication of Comprid XR 30

Comprid XR is prescribed to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and weight loss alone are insufficient.

Pharmacology

Gliclazide, the active ingredient, stimulates insulin release from pancreatic β-cells, reduces hepatic glucose output, and facilitates calcium transport across β-cell membranes.

Dosage & Administration of Comprid XR 30

• Initial dose: 40-80 mg daily, increased up to 320 mg daily if necessary. Administer before meals.
• Modified release tablets: 1-4 tablets (max 120 mg) once daily at breakfast, adjusted based on response.
• Always take with water and after a meal.
• Follow dose adjustments for combination therapy.

Interaction

Avoid alcohol and medicines affecting blood sugar levels. Strengthened effects with antibiotics, antifungals, heart medications, and antidepressants. Weakened effects with certain anti-inflammatory drugs, asthma medications, and St. John's Wort.

Contraindications

Do not take if allergic to sulfonylureas, insulin-dependent, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe kidney or liver disease, or taking certain medications. Not for breastfeeding mothers or children.

Precautions & Warnings

Regularly monitor blood sugar levels. Hypoglycaemia risk increased during initial weeks, fasting, malnourishment, dietary changes, increased physical activity, alcohol use, or certain medications. Carry sugar for emergencies. High blood sugar symptoms include thirst, frequent urination, dry mouth, and reduced performance. Not recommended for children or individuals with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
