Uses of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

• Maxpro 20mg Tablet is used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
• Maxpro 20mg Tablet is also used to decrease the chance of developing ulcers in adults.

Side Effects of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

Diarrhea is the most common side effect reported with Esomeprazole. Here are the other side effects:

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Dryness in mouth
• Nausea
• Abdominal pain
• Constipation
• Flatulence

How to use Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

Follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dosage and duration of the Maxpro 20mg Tablet. 

Swallow the tablet whole, without crushing, chewing, or breaking it.

It is recommended to take Maxpro 20mg Tablet on an empty stomach.

Indications of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

Maxpro 20mg tablet is a medication that reduces the production of acid in your stomach. It is commonly used to treat heartburn, acid reflux, and issues related to the food pipe.

Additionally, it is also used to prevent and treat stomach ulcers. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and administration instructions given by your doctor while taking Maxpro 20mg Tablet.

Pharmacology of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that works by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase in gastric parietal cells, resulting in a reduction in stomach acid production. Esomeprazole, which is the S-isomer of omeprazole, is the first proton pump inhibitor with a single optical isomer, providing superior acid control compared to racemic proton pump inhibitors.

Dosage & Administrations of Maxpro 20 Tablet:

Erosive esophagitis-

• Adult (≥18 years): 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks.
• Children & adolescents (12-18 years): 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks.

Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis-

• Adult (≥18 years): 20 mg once daily.
• Children & adolescents (12-18 years): 20 mg once daily.

Risk reduction in NSAID-associated gastric ulcer-

• Adult (≥18 years): 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks.

H. pylori eradication (Esomeprazole MUPS tablet with 1000 mg Amoxicillin and 500 mg Clarithromycin)-

• Adult (≥18 years): 20 mg twice daily for 7 days.
• Children & adolescents (12-18 years): 20 mg twice daily for 7 days.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion-

• Adult (≥18 years): 40-80 mg twice daily.

Children 1-11 years:

Erosive esophagitis: Weight <20 kg: 10 mg once daily for 8 weeks. Weight ≥20 kg: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 8 weeks

Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis: 10 mg once daily

Children below the age of 1 year: Esomeprazole Mups tablet is not approved for use in children younger than 1 year.

Interaction of Maxpro 20 Tablet:

The liver metabolizes esomeprazole significantly through CYP2C19 and CYP3A4. In vitro or in vivo investigations indicate that esomeprazole does not inhibit CYPs 1A2, 2A6, 2C9, 2D6, 2E1, or 3A4, and thus, there are no clinically significant interactions with drugs processed by these CYP enzymes.

However, esomeprazole's inhibition of gastric acid secretion may affect the absorption of medications whose bioavailability is influenced by gastrointestinal pHs, such as ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin. Oral contraceptives, diazepam, phenytoin, or quinidine do not seem to alter esomeprazole's pharmacokinetic profile.

When esomeprazole, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin are combined, the plasma levels of esomeprazole and 14-hydroxy clarithromycin increase.

Contraindications of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

Patients who have a known hypersensitivity to any of the formulations should not take Esomeprazole as it is contraindicated in such cases.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

There is limited data on the safety of Maxpro 20mg Tablet during pregnancy and lactation. 

Therefore, it should only be used during pregnancy or lactation if the benefits outweigh the potential risks to the fetus or infant, and only under the guidance of a healthcare provider.

Precautions & Warnings of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

• Patients with severe liver failure and renal impairment should use Maxpro 20mg Tablet with caution.
• Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors like Esomeprazole may slightly increase the risk of fractures in the hip, wrist, and spine, particularly after a year of use.

Storage Conditions of Maxpro 20mg Tablet:

• Store in a cool & dry place below 25ºC
• Protect from light.
• Keep out of reach of children.
