Avatan Eye Drop

Indications

Adults with glaucoma and excessive intraocular pressure can use the medication Avatan Eye Drop to lower their intraocular pressure. If your eye pressure is too high, it might harm your vision and even cause blindness. It functions by facilitating fluid flow from the eye's interior into the blood.

Pharmacology

Travoprost is a synthetic prostaglandin F2 alpha analog that is rapidly degraded by esterases in the cornea to its physiologically active free acid by isopropyl ester prodrugs. For the FP prostanoid receptor, the travoprost free acid is both powerful and selective.

Travoprost free acid is a selective FP prostanoid receptor agonist that is thought to lower intraocular pressure by increasing aqueous humor drainage, which is predominantly accomplished by increased uveoscleral outflow and, to a lesser extent, trabecular outflow.

Dosage and Administration

Use in adults: The recommended dose is one drop of Travoprost in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye (s) once daily in the evening, If more than one topical ophthalmic product is being used, the medicines must be administered at least 5 minutes apart. When substituting another ophthalmic antiglaucoma agent with Travoprost, discontinue the other agent and start the following day with Travoprost.

Pediatric patients: The efficacy and safety of travoprost eye drops in patients below the age of 18 years have not been established.

Interaction

NSAIDs have a reduced therapeutic effect.

Contraindications

Patients who are hypersensitive to travoprost or any of the preparation's excipients should not use travoprost eye drops.

Side Effects

Ocular hyperemia is the most commonly reported treatment-related adverse event.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no sufficient and well-controlled clinical studies that have been conducted on pregnant women. Only if the possible benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus may Travoprost be used during pregnancy.

The drug or its metabolites are not known to be excreted in human milk. Because many medicines are secreted in human milk, travoprost should be provided with caution to a breastfeeding woman.

Precautions & Warnings

In individuals with active intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis), Travoprost should be administered with caution. While wearing contact lenses, Travoprost should not be used. Before using the solution, make sure your contact lenses are removed. Lenses can be reinserted 15 minutes after Travoprost has been administered.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cold, dry, and light-protected location. Keep out of children's reach. After 4 weeks, throw away the container.
