✔️ How does Emeren 4 work?

Emeren 4 works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (serotonin) in the brain that may cause nausea and vomiting during anti-cancer treatment (chemotherapy) or after surgery.

✔️ Pharmacology

Ondansetron blocks serotonin 5-HT3 receptors, preventing nausea and vomiting by inhibiting the vomiting reflex and emesis both centrally and peripherally.

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• You have been prescribed Emeren 4 for the prevention of nausea and vomiting caused after surgery or due to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
• Unlike some other nausea medicines, the side effects of Emeren 4 are relatively mild.
• It is fast-acting and starts working within 30 minutes.
• If you vomit within one hour of taking a dose, take another dose.
• Avoid heavy meals and try eating small nourishing snacks throughout the day. Also, sip water regularly to help avoid dehydration.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

• Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:
  • Adults and children (6 months to 18 years): Up to 16 mg per dose, given orally or by injection, repeated as necessary.
• Radiotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting:
  • Adults: 8 mg orally 1-2 hours before radiotherapy, followed by 8 mg every 8 hours for up to 5 days.
• Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting:
  • Adults: 16 mg given as two 8 mg doses 1 hour before anesthesia.
  • Renal Impairment: No dosage adjustment is needed.
  • Hepatic Impairment: Max 8 mg/day for severe cases.
  • Elderly: No dosage adjustment is needed.
  • Children (<4 years): Limited data.

✔️ Administration of Oral Soluble Film:

1. Tear pouch along the edge.
2. Place the film on top of the tongue.
3. Allow it to dissolve within 20 seconds.
4. Swallow with or without liquid.
5. Wash hands after administration.

✔️ Interactions

No significant effects on cytochrome P-450 enzymes, but caution with drugs affecting these enzymes.

✔️ Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to ondansetron or any components, concomitant use with apomorphine.

✔️ Side Effects

Common: Headache, constipation, diarrhea. Less common: Rash, flushing, hiccups, liver enzyme abnormalities. Rare: Anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, tachycardia.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Category B: No evidence of harm in animal studies, but caution is advised in pregnant and nursing women.

✔️ Precautions

Monitor for hypersensitivity reactions. Not a replacement for nasogastric suction. Use caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
