Ketorolac tromethamine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins, primarily exerting its effects at the peripheral level. It does not have sedative or anxiolytic properties and lacks opioid activity.
Ketorolac may interact with various drugs, including methotrexate, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, warfarin, lithium, aminoglycosides, antiepileptic drugs, psychoactive drugs, and other NSAIDs.
Ketorolac is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to the drug, asthma, nasal polyposis, active peptic ulceration, pre-renal conditions, disorders of coagulation or platelet function, cirrhosis of the liver, cerebrovascular bleeding, and concomitant use with other NSAIDs.
Ketorolac is contraindicated during pregnancy, labor, or delivery. It should also be avoided by breastfeeding mothers.
Caution should be exercised in elderly patients, those with allergic disorders, and individuals with renal, cardiac, or hepatic impairments.
