How does Tufnil work?

Tolfenamic Acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause fever, pain, and inflammation (redness and swelling).

How to use Tufnil

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not chew, crush or break it. Tufnil is to be taken with food.

Indication of Tufnil

Tufnil is prescribed to treat migraine headaches and as an analgesic in the treatment of post-operative pain and fever.

Pharmacology

Absorption is a pharmacokinetic property. The GI tract absorbs it quickly. 60-90 minutes for a peak plasma concentration. 85 percent bioavailability Protein-binding is 99 percent of the time. Half-life in plasma is 2 hours. Metabolism: The liver is the site of metabolization. Enterohepatic circulation transports tolfenamic acid. Excretion: Excreted primarily in urine (90%) and on the face.

Dosage & Administration of Tufnil
  • Pharmacokinetics of absorption It is quickly absorbed by the GI tract. reaching the maximum plasma concentration takes 60–90 minutes.
  • Bioavailability of 85%. 99 percent of the time is spent binding to proteins.
  • The plasma half-life is 2 hours. The liver is where metabolization takes place.
  • Tolfenamic acid travels through the enterohepatic circulation. 90% of the time, it is eliminated by urine and through facial excretion. 
  • Tufnil 200mg Should be taken with food. Take w/ or immediately after meals.
Adult Dose of Tufnil 200mg

Oral Acute migraine attacks Adult: 

  • 200 mg when 1st symptoms appear, may be repeated after 1-2 hr, if necessary.

Mild to moderate pain Adult: 

  • 100-200 mg. Hepatic impairment: Severe: Avoid.

Take Tufnil 200mg Tablet as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Tufnil 200mg Tablet can be taken with or without food. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.

Renal Dose of Tufnil 200mg

Renal impairment: Severe: Avoid.

Interaction of Tufnil

Aluminum hydroxide decreases tolfenamic acid absorption while metoclopramide and magnesium hydroxide increase it. The risk of bleeding rises when tolfenamic acid is taken with NSAIDs and anticoagulants. Loop diuretics, B-blockers, and ACE inhibitors all have a lower antihypertensive response. After co-administration, the plasma concentration of lithium methotrexate increases.

Contraindications

A peptic ulcer that is active or bleeding in the intestines. Heart, kidney, or liver failure is severe.

Pregnancy & Lactation

This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless your doctor deems it necessary. It is not advised to take it during the third trimester of pregnancy. Breast milk contains very low concentrations of NSAIDs. NSAIDs should be avoided if at all possible while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Exercise caution if you have any of the following conditions: asthma, bronchospasm, blood disorders, cardiovascular diseases, peptic ulcers, hypertension, liver infection, impaired cardiac or renal function, or you're elderly. Increase your water intake or cut back on your medication to lessen dysuria.
