Temcard 40 contains telmisartan, a medicine belonging to the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) group. It is used to treat high blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications, such as heart attack and stroke, in appropriate patients. It may also help protect kidney function in certain patients with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk factors.
Temcard 40 can be prescribed alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines. It may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time every day. Continue taking it as directed, even if you feel well, because high blood pressure often has no noticeable symptoms. Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.
Lifestyle changes, including regular exercise, weight management, reducing salt intake, avoiding smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption, can improve blood pressure control.
Most patients tolerate telmisartan well. Possible side effects include dizziness, back pain, diarrhea, and nasal or sinus symptoms. Dizziness may occur particularly when starting treatment or increasing the dose. Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions to reduce the risk of lightheadedness.
Before taking Temcard 40, inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, renal artery stenosis, or a history of high potassium levels. Your doctor may monitor your blood pressure, kidney function, and blood potassium levels during treatment. Telmisartan must not be used during pregnancy because it can cause serious harm to the developing baby.
