Clonipres ER 0.1 Tablet

Clonipres ER 0.1 is used primarily to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It lowers blood pressure by reducing excessive nerve signals that cause blood vessels to narrow. It may also be prescribed for conditions such as migraine prevention and menopausal hot flushes, depending on the doctor's assessment.

Use this medicine only as directed by a registered physician.

Clonidine is a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. It stimulates alpha-2 receptors in the brainstem, reducing sympathetic nerve activity from the central nervous system. This decreases peripheral vascular resistance and can lower both blood pressure and heart rate.

Dosage and Administration

Take Clonipres ER 0.1 exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

• It can generally be taken with or without food.
• Try to take it at the same time each day.
• Swallow the extended-release tablet whole.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
• The dose depends on the condition being treated and the patient's response.

For hypertension, clonidine doses are individualized and may be gradually adjusted by the physician. Lower doses may be required in patients with significant kidney impairment.

If You Miss a Dose

Take the missed dose when you remember, unless it is nearly time for the next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue with the normal schedule.

Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.

Drug Interactions

• Tricyclic antidepressants: May reduce or interfere with clonidine's antihypertensive effect.
• Centrally acting alpha-blocking medicines: May alter the effect of clonidine.

• Non-selective beta-blockers: Abrupt withdrawal of clonidine while taking these medicines can cause significant rebound hypertension.
• Chlorpromazine or haloperidol: Concomitant use may result in significant blood-pressure changes.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Contraindications

Clonipres should not be used in patients with:

Overdose

An overdose of clonidine can cause severe drowsiness, very low blood pressure, slow heart rate, respiratory depression, impaired consciousness, coma, or other serious complications. In some cases, abnormal blood pressure changes or seizures may occur.

A suspected overdose requires urgent medical attention.
