Indication of Rosu 10mg Tablet

Rosuvastatin is used in the treatment of Heterozygous Hypercholesterolemia (both familial and non-familial), Homozygous Hypercholesterolemia (familial), Dyslipidemia (Mixed) (Fredrickson Type IIa and IIb), and primary cardiovascular disease prevention.

Pharmacology

By inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, rosuvastatin decreases the production of mevalonate, which in turn decreases the production of cholesterol. The increased number of LDL receptors on the liver cell surface allows for increased clearance of LDL particles from the bloodstream, leading to a decrease in circulating LDL levels. Additionally, the inhibition of VLDL synthesis in the liver leads to a decrease in the number of VLDL and LDL particles, resulting in lower levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.

Dosage & Administration of Rosu 10mg Tablet

• For adults, the recommended oral dose of Rosuvastatin for treating hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia and for preventing cardiovascular events in high-risk patients is 5-10 mg once a day, which can be increased to 20 mg daily at 4-week intervals if needed, with a maximum daily dose of 40 mg. However, it is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease.
• For children aged over 10 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the initial dose is 5 mg once daily, which can be adjusted after intervals of at least 4 weeks, with a maximum dose of 20 mg once daily. In severe renal impairment with a creatinine clearance of less than 30 mL/min/1.73m² and not undergoing hemodialysis, the starting dose should be decreased to 5 mg once a day, with a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily.
• No dose adjustment is required in patients with a creatinine clearance greater than 30 mL/min/1.73m².

Interaction

Rosu 10mg Tablet should not be taken with certain medications such as cyclosporine, warfarin or clopidogrel, fibrates, ezetimibe, antacids, antibiotics (erythromycin, fusidic acid), oral contraceptive pills, regorafenib, and anti-viral or anti-HIV drugs (ritonavir, lopinavir, atazanavir, simeprevir, ombitasvir, paritaprevir, dasabuvir, velpatasvir, grazoprevir, elbasvir, glecaprevir, and pibrentsavir).

Consuming alcoholic beverages should also be avoided while taking Rosu 10mg Tablet.

Patients with certain medical conditions such as neuromuscular disorders (Myopathy, Myoneural Disorder), thyroid gland problems (Hypothyroidism), and Renal Dysfunction may experience interactions with Rosu 10mg Tablet and should consult with their doctor before taking this medication.

Contraindications

• If you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients present in the medication, it is advisable to avoid taking rosuvastatin.
• If you experience unexplained and persistent increases in hepatic transaminase values while taking the medication, it could be an indication of liver disease and should be reported to your doctor.
