Rabesec 20mg Tablet 1 Strip

✔️ Duodenal Ulcer and Benign Gastric Ulcer

• Recommended dose: 20 mg once daily in the morning.
• Most duodenal ulcers heal within 4 weeks, though some patients may require an additional 4 weeks.
• Most gastric ulcers heal within 6 weeks, while some may need up to 12 weeks of treatment.

✔️ H. pylori Eradication

• Recommended 7-day regimen:
  • Rabeprazole 20 mg twice daily
  • Clarithromycin 500 mg twice daily
  • Amoxicillin 1 g twice daily

✔️ Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

• Initial dose: 60 mg once daily.
• Dose may be increased according to clinical need, up to 120 mg daily.
• Doses above 100 mg daily may require divided administration.

✔️ Erosive or Ulcerative GERD

• 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks.

✔️ Pediatric GERD (1–11 years)

• Less than 15 kg: 5 mg once daily for up to 12 weeks; may increase to 10 mg if necessary.
• 15 kg or more: 10 mg once daily for up to 12 weeks.

✔️ Symptomatic GERD (without esophagitis)

• 10 mg once daily.
• If symptoms persist after 4 weeks, further evaluation is recommended.
• Once symptoms are controlled, 10 mg may be taken as needed for ongoing symptom relief.

✔️ GERD Maintenance Therapy

• 10 mg or 20 mg once daily, depending on the patient's response.

✔️ Administration

• For once-daily therapy, take Rabesec in the morning before meals.
• Swallow tablets whole with water.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets.

✔️ Overdose

• Reported overdoses have generally produced mild and reversible symptoms.
• No specific antidote is available.
• Rabeprazole is highly protein-bound and cannot be removed by dialysis.
• Treatment should be supportive and symptom-based.

✔️ Side Effects

• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Dry mouth
• Changes in appetite
• Muscle pain
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness

✔️ Rabesec should not be used in patients with:

• Known hypersensitivity to rabeprazole or any component of the formulation
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by a physician

✔️ Interaction

Because Rabesec significantly reduces stomach acid production, it may affect the absorption of medicines that require an acidic environment.

• May reduce blood levels of ketoconazole and itraconazole.
• No significant interaction has been observed with liquid antacids.
• Concomitant use with atazanavir is not recommended, as reduced absorption may decrease its effectiveness.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Classified as US FDA Pregnancy Category C. Use only if the expected benefit outweighs potential risks.
• Breastfeeding: Rabeprazole may pass into breast milk. A physician should determine whether to discontinue nursing or the medication.

✔️ Safety Information:

• Symptom relief does not rule out gastric or esophageal cancer; appropriate evaluation should be considered before treatment.
• Patients receiving long-term therapy should undergo regular medical review.
• Prolonged PPI use may increase the risk of fractures, especially of the hip, wrist, and spine.
• Adequate calcium and vitamin D intake should be ensured in patients at risk of osteoporosis.
• Cross-sensitivity with other proton pump inhibitors may occur.
• Rare cases of blood disorders, liver enzyme abnormalities, and severe allergic reactions have been reported.
• Use cautiously in patients with severe liver impairment.
• Long-term treatment may increase the risk of gastrointestinal infections such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, and Clostridioides difficile.
• Prolonged use may cause low magnesium levels (hypomagnesemia), which can lead to fatigue, muscle spasms, dizziness, seizures, or cardiac rhythm disturbances.
• Long-term acid suppression may reduce vitamin B12 absorption.
• Rare cases of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) have been associated with PPI use.
• Rabeprazole may increase Chromogranin A (CgA) levels, potentially affecting investigations for neuroendocrine tumors.
