Esomeprazole 20 mg tablet/capsule: Contains enteric-coated micro-pellets of esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate equivalent to 20 mg of esomeprazole.
Esomeprazole belongs to the proton pump inhibitor class. It works by blocking the hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system, commonly known as the proton pump, in the stomach's acid-producing cells. This reduces gastric acid secretion and helps relieve acid reflux symptoms while supporting the healing of acid-related damage. It is also used for the treatment and prevention of certain NSAID-associated gastric ulcers.

MUPS stands for Multiple-Unit Pellet System. This pharmaceutical technology incorporates numerous coated micro-pellets into a tablet, combining the convenience of tablets with some of the advantages of pellet-filled capsules.
MUPS formulations are designed to support consistent drug release and absorption, promote uniform gastric emptying, and reduce the risk of dose dumping. The enteric coating protects the drug from stomach acid and allows it to be released in the intestine. These formulations may also help reduce prolonged contact with the esophagus and minimize variations in drug absorption. Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production. It is used in adults aged 18 years and older to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), heartburn, acid regurgitation, and erosive esophagitis. It also helps maintain the healing of reflux esophagitis, treat and reduce the risk of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers, manage Zollinger–Ellison syndrome, and support H. pylori eradication when used with appropriate antibiotics.
In adolescents aged 12–17 years, Esomeprazole is used to treat GERD, non-erosive reflux disease, and erosive esophagitis.

Esomeprazole MUPS tablets can generally be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with liquid; do not chew or crush it. If the specific product permits dispersal, follow its package instructions. Some MUPS tablets can be dispersed in still water, and the resulting liquid should be consumed promptly without chewing the pellets.
Esomeprazole may interact with medicines whose absorption depends on stomach acidity, including certain iron preparations, ketoconazole, and digoxin. It may also increase the blood concentration of diazepam and interact with medicines such as phenytoin and warfarin, requiring appropriate monitoring. When used with clarithromycin and amoxicillin for H. pylori eradication, drug concentrations may change.
Pregnancy: Esomeprazole should be used during pregnancy only when considered necessary by a physician after assessing the potential benefits and risks.
Breastfeeding: Consult a physician before using esomeprazole while breastfeeding because information about its passage into breast milk is limited.
Use esomeprazole cautiously in patients with severe liver impairment or significant kidney problems. Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors may be associated with an increased risk of certain complications, including bone fractures, particularly with prolonged treatment or in patients with other risk factors. Use the lowest effective dose for the recommended duration under medical supervision.
Esomeprazole should not be used by individuals with a known allergy to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any ingredient in the formulation.
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
