✔️ Composition

Tablets

• 20 mg: Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate equivalent to Esomeprazole 20 mg
• 40 mg: Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate equivalent to Esomeprazole 40 mg

Capsules

• 20 mg: Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate equivalent to Esomeprazole 20 mg
• 40 mg: Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate equivalent to Esomeprazole 40 mg

✔️ Dosage

Adults (18 years and older)

GERD and NERD

• Non-erosive reflux disease: 20 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks
• Maintenance treatment of NERD: 20 mg once daily
• Reflux or erosive esophagitis: 20–40 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks
• Maintenance after healing of esophagitis: 20 mg once daily

NSAID-Associated Gastric Ulcers

• Treatment: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks
• Risk reduction: 20 mg once daily

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

• 40 mg twice daily

H. pylori Eradication

• Esomeprazole 20 mg twice daily with amoxicillin 1000 mg and clarithromycin 500 mg for 7 days, or
• Esomeprazole 40 mg once daily as part of a prescribed treatment regimen for 10 days

Adolescents (12–17 years)

GERD

• Non-erosive reflux disease: 20 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks
• Reflux or erosive esophagitis: 20–40 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks

Always use the medicine according to a registered physician’s instructions.

✔️ Directions for Use:

• Swallow the tablet whole with water.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
• If swallowing is difficult, disperse the tablet in half a glass of non-carbonated water.
• Maxima MUPS may be taken with or without food.
• Stir until the tablet breaks apart and drink the mixture immediately or within 30 minutes.
• Rinse the glass with additional water and drink the remainder.
• Do not chew or crush the pellets.

Common

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Abdominal pain
• Flatulence
• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Headache

Less Common

• Dry mouth
• Swelling of the extremities
• Dizziness
• Sleep disturbances
• Fatigue
• Tingling sensations
• Joint or muscle pain
• Rash and itching

Rare but Serious

• Hepatitis and jaundice
• Severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis
• Blood disorders
• Kidney inflammation
• Low sodium levels
• Visual disturbances
• Depression, hallucinations, and confusion
• Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy
Limited data are available regarding use during pregnancy. It should only be used when clearly necessary and prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Breastfeeding
It is unknown whether esomeprazole passes into breast milk; therefore, its use during breastfeeding is generally not recommended.

✔️ Interaction

Esomeprazole is metabolized mainly by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes in the liver.

Important interactions include:

• May increase blood levels of diazepam by reducing its clearance.
• May affect absorption of drugs requiring an acidic stomach environment, such as ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin.
• No clinically significant interactions have been observed with warfarin, phenytoin, quinidine, clarithromycin, or amoxicillin.
• Combined use with clarithromycin and amoxicillin may increase blood levels of esomeprazole and clarithromycin metabolites.

✔️ Contraindications

Maxima MUPS should not be used in individuals who are allergic to esomeprazole or any ingredient of the formulation.

✔️ Use caution in patients with:

• Severe liver disease
• Severe kidney impairment

Long-term treatment with proton pump inhibitors may slightly increase the risk of fractures involving the hip, wrist, or spine, especially when used for more than one year.

✔️ Storage:

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
