This formulation combines the antacid activity of Magaldrate with the antiflatulent properties of Simethicone.
Magaldrate (Hydroxymagnesium Aluminate) is a magnesium-aluminum complex that rapidly neutralizes excess gastric acid while maintaining the gastric pH within the physiological range (approximately pH 5–6). This helps relieve symptoms of hyperacidity without causing excessive alkalinization. In addition, Magaldrate reduces the activity of pepsin, thereby minimizing acid-related irritation of the gastric mucosa.
Simethicone is an inert anti-foaming agent that lowers the surface tension of gas bubbles within the gastrointestinal tract, allowing smaller bubbles to combine into larger ones that are more easily expelled. This action helps relieve abdominal bloating, flatulence, and discomfort caused by excessive intestinal gas.
Magaldrate-containing preparations may also be used in children when considered appropriate by the treating physician.
Use this medicine only as prescribed by a registered physician.
To minimize the risk of interactions, administer this antacid at least 2 hours before or after other oral medications whenever possible.
This product
Magaldrate may interfere with the absorption of certain orally administered medicines.
It should not be taken concurrently with tetracycline antibiotics, as it may significantly reduce their absorption.
Magaldrate may also decrease the absorption or bioavailability of medications such as:
Pregnancy:
Magaldrate may be used during pregnancy when clinically indicated. However, excessive or prolonged use should be avoided unless recommended by a healthcare professional.
Breastfeeding:
Small amounts of Magaldrate may pass into breast milk, but no harmful effects have been reported in breastfed infants when used at recommended doses.
