Oxecone MS is indicated for the symptomatic relief of conditions associated with excess gastric acid and gas formation. It is commonly used in the management of:

• Heartburn
• Hyperacidity
• Acid indigestion (dyspepsia)
• Gastritis
• Peptic ulcer disease
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Abdominal bloating and excessive gas (flatulence)

The formulation neutralizes excess stomach acid while helping to relieve gas-related discomfort by promoting the elimination of trapped gas from the gastrointestinal tract.

Composition

Each formulation contains:

• Magaldrate – Antacid
• Simethicone – Antiflatulent (Anti-foaming agent)

Pharmacology

Oxecone MS combines the acid-neutralizing action of Magaldrate with the gas-relieving effect of Simethicone.

Magaldrate is a hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex that reacts rapidly with gastric acid to form magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. These compounds neutralize excess hydrochloric acid, provide prolonged antacid activity, help increase lower esophageal sphincter tone, and reduce irritation of the gastric mucosa. Because the active components are minimally absorbed, systemic exposure is limited.

Simethicone acts locally within the gastrointestinal tract as an anti-foaming agent. It lowers the surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing smaller bubbles to merge into larger ones that are more easily expelled through belching or flatulence, thereby relieving abdominal bloating, fullness, and discomfort.

Dosage and Administration

Use Oxecone MS exactly as prescribed by a registered physician. The dosage may vary according to the patient's age, severity of symptoms, and clinical response.

Adults

Oral Suspension:

• 2–4 teaspoonfuls taken 3–4 times daily
• Administer 20–60 minutes after meals and again at bedtime, or as directed by the physician.

Children

Children aged 12 years and above:

• 2–4 teaspoonfuls taken 3–4 times daily
• Administer 20–60 minutes after meals and at bedtime, or according to medical advice.

Administration Instructions

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use.
• Measure the prescribed dose using a calibrated measuring cup or spoon.
• Take the suspension orally.
• Continue treatment for the full duration recommended by your healthcare provider. Premature discontinuation may lead to recurrence of symptoms.
• Maintain an interval of at least 2 hours between Oxecone MS and other oral medications, as antacids may interfere with their absorption.

Contraindications

Oxecone MS should not be used in patients with:

• Known hypersensitivity to Magaldrate, Simethicone, magnesium salts, aluminum compounds, or any other component of the formulation.
• Severe renal impairment or significantly reduced kidney function.

Precautions and Warnings

Use Oxecone MS with caution in patients with:

• Impaired renal function.
• Hypophosphataemia.
• Debilitated or elderly patients.
• Liver disease, if clinically indicated.

Patients should inform their physician before treatment if they are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Seek immediate medical advice if symptoms suggest appendicitis, including persistent lower abdominal pain, severe cramping, nausea, vomiting, or worsening abdominal distension.

To minimize constipation, maintain adequate hydration and consume a fiber-rich diet.

Side Effects

Oxecone MS is generally well tolerated. Most adverse effects are mild and temporary.

Common side effects include:

• Chalky or metallic taste
• Constipation
• Diarrhea or loose stools
• Stomach cramps
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Fecal impaction (rare, usually with prolonged use)

Consult your physician if any adverse effects persist or become troublesome.

Drug Interactions

Magaldrate may reduce the gastrointestinal absorption of several orally administered medicines. Caution is advised when used together with:

• Tetracycline antibiotics
• Benzodiazepines
• Indomethacin
• Other medications whose absorption may be affected by antacids

To minimize potential interactions, administer Oxecone MS at least 2 hours before or after other oral medications.

Prolonged use or high doses may alter bowel habits, resulting in constipation or diarrhea depending on individual patient response.

Patient Advice

• Take the medicine after meals and at bedtime unless otherwise instructed by your physician.
• Shake the suspension well before every dose.
• Use the supplied measuring device for accurate dosing.
• Avoid spicy, oily, and acidic foods if they worsen your symptoms.
• Eat smaller, more frequent meals rather than large meals.
• Avoid lying down immediately after eating.
• Maintain a healthy body weight and limit alcohol, caffeine, and smoking, as these may aggravate acid reflux and indigestion.
