✔️ How does Paracetamol work?

Paracetamol acts as both an analgesic (pain reliever) and an antipyretic (fever reducer). It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that are responsible for pain and fever.

✔️ Contraindications

Do not use Fast 500 if you have a known allergy or hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any component of the formulation.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Fast

Adults

Pain and Fever

• 1–2 tablets every 4–6 hours as needed.
• Maximum daily dose: 4 g (8 tablets).

Extended-Release Tablets

• 2 tablets every 6–8 hours.
• Maximum: 6 tablets within 24 hours.

Syrup/Suspension

• 4–8 measuring spoonfuls, 3–4 times daily.

Rectal Suppositories

• 500 mg–1 g every 4–6 hours.
• Maximum: 4 g daily.

Children

Tablets (6–12 years)

• ½–1 tablet, 3–4 times daily.

Extended-Release Tablets (Over 12 years)

• 2 tablets every 6–8 hours.
• Maximum: 6 tablets in 24 hours.

Syrup/Suspension

• 3 months–<1 year: 60–120 mg
• 1–5 years: 120–240 mg
• 6–12 years: 240–480 mg

Paediatric Drops

• Up to 3 months: 40 mg
• 4–11 months: 80 mg
• 1–<2 years: 120 mg
• 2–3 years: 160 mg
• 4–5 years: 240 mg

Doses may be repeated every 4 hours when necessary, within recommended limits.

• Take the medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water.
• Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
• It may be taken with food to reduce the risk of stomach irritation.

✔️ Serious Side Effects

• Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
• Low white blood cell count (leukopenia, neutropenia)
• Pancytopenia
• Hypotension
• Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)

Potentially life-threatening reactions include:

• Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS)
• Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)
• Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP)
• Severe liver toxicity
• Acute kidney injury

✔️ Fast 500 may interact with several medications, including:

• Anticonvulsants (phenytoin, carbamazepine, barbiturates): May reduce paracetamol levels.
• Warfarin and other anticoagulants: Long-term use may increase bleeding risk.
• Metoclopramide and domperidone: May speed up absorption.
• Probenecid: May increase paracetamol concentrations.
• Chloramphenicol: May increase blood levels.
• Cholestyramine: May reduce absorption if taken within one hour.
• Phenothiazines: May increase the risk of severe hypothermia.

✔️ Use with caution in patients with:

• Chronic alcohol use
• G6PD deficiency
• Severe dehydration or malnutrition
• Liver impairment
• Kidney impairment

✔️ Missed Dose

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one.
