✔️ Dosage and Administration

• The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated, the tablet strength, and the patient's medical history.
• Take Rifaximin exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water.
• It can generally be taken with or without food.
• Follow the prescribed schedule and complete the course when directed.
• Do not use leftover antibiotics or share this medicine with others.

✔️ Rifaximin may interact with:

• Cyclosporin: May increase Rifaximin absorption and exposure.
• Warfarin: Closer monitoring of blood-clotting parameters may be necessary.
• Other medicines: Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products, and supplements you use.

✔️ Words of Advice:

• Drink plenty of fluids and consider oral rehydration solution to replace fluids lost through diarrhoea.
• For IBS-D, identify food triggers and consider a low-FODMAP diet with guidance from a qualified dietitian.
• Limit caffeine, alcohol, and foods that worsen your symptoms.
• Practise good hand hygiene to reduce the spread of intestinal infections.
• For hepatic encephalopathy, follow your clinician's dietary recommendations rather than restricting protein on your own.

• Nausea and stomach discomfort
• Headache
• Dizziness or fatigue
• Bloating and gas
• Serious side effects requiring medical attention:
• Severe or persistent watery diarrhoea, which may indicate Clostridioides difficile infection
• Blood in the stool or severe abdominal pain
• Facial, lip, tongue, or throat swelling
• Difficulty breathing or other signs of a severe allergic reaction

✔️ Safety Information:

• Tell your doctor if you have severe liver disease or a history of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
• Do not use Rifaximin for diarrhoea accompanied by fever or blood in the stool unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
• Inform your doctor about all medicines you take, particularly warfarin and ciclosporin.
• Rifaximin may increase systemic exposure in patients taking certain P-glycoprotein inhibitors.
• Prolonged or repeated use may increase the risk of antibiotic resistance and antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
• Maintain adequate hydration if you have diarrhoea.
