Indication of Aeron 10mg Tablet

Aeron 10mg Tablet is used in adults and in adolescents (aged 15 years or older) to treat and prevent the symptoms of:

• Chronic asthma
• Seasonal allergic rhinitis (runny nose, sneezing, itching of the eyes and/or nose)
• Exercise-induced bronchospasm (narrowing of airways)

Dosage & Administration of Aeron 10mg Tablet

Adult Dose:

• Chronic asthma: 10 mg once daily in the evening (as a film-coated tablet)
• Allergic rhinitis: 10 mg once daily
• Prophylaxis of exercise-induced asthma: 10 mg at least 2 hours prior to exercise (do not take additional doses within 24 hours)

Child Dose:

• Asthma prophylaxis and maintenance treatment:
  • <12 months: Safety and efficacy not established
  • 12-24 months: 4 mg (granules) once daily in the evening
  • 2-6 years: 4 mg (chewable tablet or granules) once daily in the evening
  • 6-15 years: 5 mg (chewable tablet) once daily in the evening

15 years: 10 mg (conventional tablet) once daily in the evening

• Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm Prophylaxis:
  • 6-15 years: 5 mg (chewable tablet) 2 hours before exercise (do not take additional dose within 24 hours)

15 years: 10 mg 2 hours before exercise (do not take additional dose within 24 hours)

• Perennial Allergic Rhinitis:
  • <6 months: Safety and efficacy not established
  • 6-24 months: 4 mg (granules) once daily
  • 2-6 years: 4 mg (chewable tablet or granules) once daily
  • 6-15 years: 5 mg (chewable tablet) once daily

15 years: 10 mg (conventional tablet) once daily

Renal Dose: No dosage adjustment is needed for renal impairment.

• There have been reports of neuropsychiatric events associated with the use of Montelukast, including agitation, hostility, anxiousness, depression, disorientation, disturbance in attention, dream abnormalities, hallucinations, insomnia, irritability, memory impairment, restlessness, somnambulism (sleepwalking), suicidal thinking and behavior (including suicide), and tremor. Patients should be monitored for any changes in mood or behavior while taking Montelukast.
• Montelukast should not be used as monotherapy for the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm.
• Patients who experience asthma triggered by aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should continue to avoid these medications even when taking Montelukast.
• Montelukast should not be abruptly substituted for oral or inhaled corticosteroids. Any changes in corticosteroid therapy should be done under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
