✅ Description:

Ferric carboxymaltose is a non-dextran iron complex that gradually releases iron into the bloodstream. The released iron is utilized for the production of hemoglobin, myoglobin, and iron-containing enzymes, helping restore the body's iron reserves and improve oxygen transport.

Revofer 1g Injection is an intravenous iron replacement medicine containing ferric carboxymaltose. It is used to treat iron-deficiency anemia, particularly when oral iron is not tolerated, does not work adequately, or cannot be used. It replenishes the body's iron stores, which are essential for producing hemoglobin and red blood cells that transport oxygen throughout the body.

  • Revofer is generally used when oral iron is ineffective, poorly tolerated, or unsuitable.
  • It must be administered by a healthcare professional.
  • Remain under observation for at least 30 minutes after administration.
  • Your hemoglobin and iron levels may be checked regularly.
  • Inform your doctor about any oral iron supplements you are taking.
  • Avoid alcohol if your doctor advises you to do so, particularly if you experience worsening side effects.
  • Dark stools are more commonly associated with oral iron; they are not a reliable expected effect of IV ferric carboxymaltose.

✔️ How does Revofer work?

Revofer 1g Injection is administered into a vein by a doctor or trained healthcare professional. It should never be self-administered.

Depending on the patient's body weight and medical condition, treatment may be given as two doses approximately 7 days apart. The exact dose and treatment schedule should be determined by the physician.

Patients should generally be monitored during administration and for at least 30 minutes afterward for signs of an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction.

✔️ For iron-deficiency anemia in adults:
  • Body weight >50 kg: 750 mg IV once, followed by another 750 mg dose after 7 days. The cumulative dose should not exceed 1,500 mg per treatment course.
  • Body weight <50 kg: 15 mg/kg IV once, followed by a second dose after 7 days, without exceeding a cumulative dose of 1,500 mg per course.

Pediatric safety and effectiveness have not been established.

✔️ Common Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Flushing or feeling hot
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure
  • Injection-site pain, swelling, redness, or discoloration
  • Itching or skin rash
  • Reduced blood phosphate levels

Most mild reactions are temporary, but persistent or troublesome symptoms should be reported to a healthcare professional.

Serious Allergic Reactions

Rarely, ferric carboxymaltose can cause serious hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis. Warning signs may include:

  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing
  • Severe rash or hives
  • Swelling
  • Severe dizziness
  • Very low blood pressure
  • Loss of consciousness

The injection should only be administered where appropriate emergency treatment is immediately available.

✔️ Overdose & Missed Dose

Overdose

Excessive iron administration can cause iron overload and other complications. The medicine should therefore be administered only under medical supervision.

Missed Dose

If you miss a scheduled treatment, contact your doctor or healthcare provider to determine when the next dose should be given. Do not administer an extra dose yourself.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Iron-deficiency anemia itself can cause complications during pregnancy, so treatment may be considered when clinically necessary. Available studies have not established a clear drug-related risk of major birth defects, but pregnancy use should be decided by a physician based on the potential benefits and risks.

Ferric carboxymaltose passes into breast milk in very small amounts, and available data have not identified harmful effects in breastfed infants. Consult your doctor before using it while breastfeeding.

✔️ Tell your doctor before treatment if you have:
  • A history of drug or other severe allergies
  • Asthma
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver problems
  • Any condition affecting iron metabolism

Monitor blood pressure, hemoglobin, blood cells, and iron levels during treatment. Tell your doctor if you take oral iron supplements or other iron-containing medicines.

✔️ Storage:

Store in a cool (below 30°C) & dry place, away from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
