Pharmacology
- Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an effective antihistamine, blocking H1 receptors.

Dosage & Administration of Histacin Syrup 60ml
Adult Dose:
- Oral: 4 mg every 4-6 hours. Maximum: 24 mg daily.
- Parenteral (for anaphylactic shock): 10-20 mg IM, SC, or slow IV injection over 1 minute. Maximum daily dose: 40 mg.
Child Dose:
- Oral:
- 1-2 years: 1 mg twice daily.
- 2-5 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours.
- 6-12 years: 2 mg every 4-6 hours.
- Maximum daily dose: 6 mg (1-5 years), 12 mg (6-12 years).
- Parenteral (for anaphylactic shock): 87.5 mcg/kg SC four times daily.
Overdose symptoms include CNS depression, CNS stimulation, tinnitus, blurred vision, dizziness, ataxia, and hypotension. Stimulation and atropine-like signs may occur in children.
Interaction
Histacin may interact with specific medications, including pentobarbital sodium, calcium chloride, kanamycin sulfate, noradrenaline acid tartrate, and meglumine adipiodone.
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to chlorpheniramine.
- Not for use in newborns or premature infants.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid use in lactating mothers and during the first trimester of pregnancy.

- Use with caution in patients with glaucoma and prostatic hypertrophy.
