How to use Seronex 50

How Seronex 50 works

Seronex 50 is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. Pharmacology

Sertraline strongly and specifically inhibits 5-HT uptake by CNS neurons, which raises 5-HT concentrations in synaptic clefts and speeds up sustained 5-HT activity at postsynaptic receptor sites. It gradually causes depression to decline. The fact that sertraline slows down the brain's serotonin turnover further complicates its function. Dosage & Administration of Seronex 50

Major depressive disorder in adults:

• 50 mg as the first dose
• 50-200 mg is the therapeutic range.

Disorder of compulsive obsession:

• 50 mg as the first dose
• 50-200 mg is the therapeutic range.

Anxiety disorders such as panic attacks, PTSD, and social anxiety

• The beginning dose of 25 mg
• 50-200 mg is the therapeutic range.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder in children (ages 6 to 12):

• The beginning dose of 25 mg
• 50-200 mg is the therapeutic range.

One week should pass between dose modifications, according to recommendations.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD): 

• 50 mg/day is the recommended starting dose. Sertraline can be given continuously (every day during the menstrual cycle) or sporadically (starting the daily dosage 14 days prior to the anticipated onset of menstruation and continuing through the onset of menses). With each new cycle, intermittent dosing would be repeated.

Continuous:

Interaction

Sertraline is closely linked to plasma protein, so giving it to a patient who is also taking another medicine that is tightly bound to protein (e.g. warfarin, digitoxin) could produce a shift in plasma concentrations, potentially causing an undesirable impact. Displacement of protein-bound Sertraline by other firmly bound medicines, on the other hand, may have negative consequences. Sertraline may interact with other medications including Cimetidine, CNS active pharmaceuticals like Diazepam, Hypoglycemic meds, and Atenolol, among others.

Contraindications

Sertraline is not recommended for patients who have a known hypersensitivity to the medicine or any of its excipients. It is not indicated for persons with moderate to severe hepatic impairment.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Sertraline's safety during human pregnancy has not been demonstrated, despite the fact that no indication of teratogenicity has been found in animal research.
