✔️ Pharmacology:

Metformin, an antihyperglycemic agent, enhances glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetes patients. It reduces both basal and postprandial plasma glucose levels. Metformin achieves this by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal glucose absorption, and increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Importantly, it does not cause hypoglycemia and does not induce hyperinsulinemia, distinguishing it from sulfonylureas.

The dosages of Comet 850 and Comet TM XR should be tailored to individual effectiveness and tolerance, with careful consideration of maximum daily doses.

• The maximum daily dose of Comet TM is 2550 mg for adults and 2000 mg for pediatric patients aged 10-16 years.
• The maximum daily dose of Comet TM XR for adults is 2000 mg.
• Comet TM should be taken with meals in divided doses, while Comet TM XR is generally administered once daily with the evening meal. Comet TM XR tablets must be swallowed whole, not crushed or chewed.
• Initiate treatment with low doses, gradually increasing them to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and identify the minimum effective dose for glycemic control.

• Chronic co-administration of Metformin and furosemide has no known interactions.
• Nifedipine may enhance Metformin absorption.
• Cationic drugs (e.g., amiloride, digoxin, morphine, procainamide, quinidine, quinine, ranitidine, triamterene, trimethoprim, or vancomycin) eliminated by renal tubular secretion could potentially interact with Metformin by competing for renal tubular transport systems.
