How to use Betameson-CL Cream

This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless your hands are the affected area.

How Betameson-CL Cream works

Betameson-CL is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone and Clotrimazole which treat skin infections. Betamethasone is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Clotrimazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi on the skin by preventing them from forming their own protective covering.

Side Effects of Betameson-CL Cream
  • Skin rash
  • Blisters under the skin
  • Burning or tingling sensation of skin
  • Itchy and dry skin
  • Thinning of skin
  • Skin peeling
  • Easy bruising of the skin
  • Unusually warm skin
Quick Suggestions:
  • To treat fungal skin infections, Betameson-CL Cream has been given to you.
  • Betameson-CL Cream can only be applied to the skin. Avoid getting it in your mouth, vagina, or eyes. If you accidentally acquire it in these locations, rinse it with cold water.
  • Without a doctor's prescription, avoid covering the area being treated with airtight coverings like bandages since this might raise the chance of adverse effects.
  • Stop taking Betameson-CL Cream and see your doctor if you believe the region of skin you are treating has grown more inflamed and infected.
  • Never use this medication more frequently or for a longer period of time than recommended by your doctor. If, after two weeks of therapy, the affected patch of skin does not improve, let your doctor know.
Indications of Betameson-CL Cream

Betamethasone + Clotrimazole is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone and Clotrimazole which treat skin infections. A steroid called betamethasone prevents the synthesis of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause the skin to become red, puffy, and itching. An antifungal called clotrimazole prevents fungi from growing on the skin by stopping them from developing their own protective layer.

Pharmacology of Betameson-CL Cream

Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent used to treat superficial infections caused by pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur. The mechanism of action involves inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an important sterol in fungal cell membranes. This leads to the instability of the cell membrane and ultimately to the death of the fungus. Betamethasone dipropionate is a corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. However, the exact mechanism of action of corticosteroids is still unclear.

Dosage & Administration of Betameson-CL Cream
  • Only apply this medicine to the skin.
  • The treatment area should be properly cleaned and dried.
  • Sufficient topical preparation should be applied onto the affected and surrounding skin areas twice a day, in the morning and evening, for 2 weeks in tinea cruris and tinea corporis and for 4 weeks in tinea pedis.
  • The use of this cream for longer than four weeks is not recommended.
  • Typically twice daily (in the morning and evening), or as prescribed by your doctor, apply a small coating of the medicine to the afflicted region and gently rub it in.
  • Unless you are taking this medication to treat your hands, wash your hands after usage.
  • Unless your doctor instructs you to do so, avoid wrapping, covering, or bandaging the affected region.
  • After administering the drug to your groin area, dress comfortably.
  • Applying the drug to your mouth, nose, eyes, or vagina is not recommended.
  • If the drug does get in certain locations, wash it out thoroughly with water.
Interactions

It's unlikely that any other medications you take will interfere with skin-applied medication. However, there are interactions between several medications. Inform all of your medical professionals about any prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements you use.

Contraindications

This topical preparation is contraindicated in patients who are sensitive to any of its ingredients or other corticosteroids or imidazole. If the use of cream causes irritation or allergies, treatment should be stopped and appropriate treatment started. The cream is contraindicated in facial rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, perianal and genital itching, diaper rash, and bacterial or viral infections. Systemic absorption of local corticosteroids can produce reversible inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. If HPA axis inhibition is observed, try to withdraw the drug or reduce the frequency of use. Pediatric patients may be more susceptible to systemic toxicity at equivalent doses due to their large skin surface area to body weight ratio.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is insufficient evidence to prove safety during pregnancy. Clotrimazole has no teratogenic effect on animals, but it has fetal toxicity when taken orally in high doses. Topical use of corticosteroids in pregnant animals can cause abnormal fetal development. Therefore, if the benefits justify the potential risk to the fetus, the cream should only be used during pregnancy, and such use should not be widespread, ie. Large amounts or long-term. It is not clear whether the ingredients of this preparation will be excreted from human milk, so caution should be exercised when treating breastfeeding mothers.

Precautions & Warnings
  • The safety and effectiveness of the preparation have not been established in children below the age of 12 years.
  • Topical corticosteroids may cause reversible inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis when absorbed systemically.
  • If HPA axis suppression is seen, an effort should be made to stop taking the medication or minimize how often it is used.
  • Due to the greater skin surface-to-body mass ratios of pediatric patients, systemic toxicity from equal dosages may affect them more easily.
  • Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.
Storage Conditions

Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light & moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Betameson-CL Cream should not be used on the face and contact with eyes should be avoided. QUADRILINE CREAM should only be used for the condition it is prescribed for. Do not use QUADRILINE CREAM for any other condition without consulting your doctor. Do not give it to other people even if their condition appears to be the same.

Even if symptoms go away after a few days, keep taking Betameson-CL Cream until the entire advised dosage is gone. If you stop the Betameson-CL Cream too soon, the infection can come back.
