Novotin contains biotin (Vitamin H), an essential water-soluble vitamin required for several important metabolic processes. Biotin plays a key role in fatty acid synthesis, amino acid metabolism, and gluconeogenesis. It acts as a cofactor for carboxylase enzymes involved in the metabolism of pyruvate and acetyl-CoA.
Biotin supports the growth, differentiation, and renewal of epidermal cells, making it essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails. In hair follicles, biotin functions as a coenzyme for mitochondrial carboxylases, helping to improve keratin structure and hair strength. A deficiency of biotin may lead to hair loss, dermatitis, and other systemic manifestations such as metabolic disturbances. Due to these benefits, biotin is widely used as a nutritional supplement for various types of hair loss.
The dose of biotin depends on the patient’s age and clinical condition.
Adults:
Generally, 1–3 tablets daily or as directed by the physician
Children:
Biotin deficiency in early childhood (from 1 week to 2 years) may present with seizures, hypotonia, developmental delay, ataxia, hyperventilation, or coma.
In such cases, 5–10 tablets daily may be administered after crushing and mixing with water or fruit juice, or as advised by a physician.
Novotin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to biotin or any of its components.
Anticonvulsant medications may reduce plasma levels of biotin
Prolonged antibiotic use can decrease biotin production by intestinal microflora
Excessive intake of raw egg whites may interfere with biotin absorption
Biotin is generally well-tolerated at recommended doses. No toxicity has been reported, even with high oral doses (up to 200 mg/day) or intravenous administration (up to 20 mg/day).
Adequate clinical data regarding the safety of biotin supplementation during pregnancy and lactation are limited. Use should be based on medical advice.
Store in a cool, dry place protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
