Uses of Dermasol-N Cream
  • Used to treat resistant dermatoses (skin infections) with secondary bacterial or fungal infection
How Dermasol-N Cream works

As Clobetasol has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive qualities that prevent the synthesis of specific chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause the skin to become red, puffy, and itchy, it is used in Dermasol-N Cream to treat infections. Neomycin is an antibiotic that prevents the growth of bacteria in the skin, whereas Miconazole is an antifungal that prevents the growth of fungus.

Overdose of Dermasol-N Cream

Acute overdosage is extremely unlikely. There have been no reports of overdose-related problems. However, in the case of chronic overdosage or misuse, the symptoms of hypercortisolism may appear, and in this case, topical steroids should be gradually discontinued.

If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much Dermasol-N Cream, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

Side Effects of Dermasol-N Cream
  • Skin rash, itching, redness
  • Burning sensation
  • Contact dermatitis
Indications of Dermasol-N Cream

When secondary bacterial or candidal infection is present, suspected, or likely to arise, as when using occlusive dressings, Clobetasol/Neomycin/Nystatin Cream is suggested. These dermatoses include persistent eczemas and psoriasis (apart from extensive plaque psoriasis).

Pharmacology

Clobetasol Propionate is a potent corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory properties. Clobetasol Propionate's main effect on the skin is a non-specific anti-inflammatory response, which is caused by vasoconstriction and a decrease in collagen synthesis.

Neomycin Sulphate is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a broad spectrum of action that is used to treat bacterial infections. It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the ribosomal 30s and 50s subunits of susceptible bacteria. Neomycin also causes a misreading of the mRNA template's genetic codes, resulting in the incorporation of incorrect amino acids into the growing polypeptide chain.

Nystatin is an antifungal medicine that kills fungi and yeasts by interfering with their cell membranes.

The primary action of this preparation is based on the corticosteroid's anti-inflammatory activity. The combination of Neomycin and Nystatin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial and anti-candidal activity, allowing this effect to be used in the treatment of conditions that are or are likely to become infected.

Dosage of Dermasol-N Cream

Adults and children over 2 years:

  • Apply sparingly to the affected area once or twice daily until improvement occurs. As with other highly active topical steroid preparations therapy should be discontinued when control is achieved.
  • In very resistant lesions, especially where there is hyperkeratosis, the anti-inflammatory effect of this preparation can be enhanced, if necessary, by occluding the treatment area with polythene.
  • Treatment should not be continued for more than 7 days without medical supervision. If a longer course is necessary, it is recommended that treatment should not be continued for more than 4 weeks without the patient’s condition being reviewed.
  • Repeated short courses of this preparation may be used to control exacerbations

Elderly:

  • This preparation is suitable for use in the elderly. Caution should be exercised in cases where a decrease in renal function exists and significant systemic absorption of Neomycin Sulphate may occur.

Children:

  • Under 2 years this preparation is not recommended.
Administration of Dermasol-N Cream
  • Apply Dermasol-N Cream as directed by your physician.
  • It is for external use only.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water and apply a thin layer of the medicine to the affected area of the skin and rub it gently.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, face, groin, or in skin folds.
Interaction

Following significant systemic absorption, neomycin sulfate can intensify and prolong the respiratory depressant effects of neuromuscular blocking agents. However, if used as directed, systemic exposure to Neomycin Sulphate is expected to be low, and drug interactions are unlikely to be significant. There have been no reports of dangerous interactions with Clobetasol Propionate or Nystatin.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, primary cutaneous viral infection (eg-Herpes simplex, chicken pox), and hypersensitivity to the preparation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy category C. The safe use of this preparation during pregnancy & lactation has not been established.

Precautions & Warnings
  • Since adrenal suppression can happen even in the absence of blockage, long-term continuous topical medication should be avoided wherever feasible, especially in babies and children.
  • Care must be used while putting a preparation on the eyelids to avoid getting it in the eye and developing glaucoma.
  • If this drug does accidentally go into the eye, make sure to completely wipe it out with water.
  • Steer clear of hot showers since they might irritate your skin.
  • Avoid scratching the injured region.
  • When outside, use protective gear and sunscreen.
  • Use unscented moisturizers often to hydrate and calm the afflicted region. If the itching gets worse, call your doctor.
Storage Conditions
