Odessy Shampoo is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections of the skin. It works by killing the fungus that causes the infections. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane.
Ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo is a broad-spectrum imidazole-dioxolane synthetic antifungal drug that alters the permeability of the cell membrane to prevent the in vitro growth of the following common dermatophytes and yeasts: Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Microsporum audouini, Microsporum gypseum, and Epidermophyton floccosum; yeasts: Candida albicans, Malassezia ovale (Pityrosporum ovale), and Candida tropicalis; and Malassezia furfur, the organism that causes tinea versicolor (Pityrosporum orbiculare).
The affected areas of the skin or the scalp should be washed with ketoconazole 2% shampoo, which should be left on the skin/scalp for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing.
