✔️ Uses of Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet
  • It is used for the prevention of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease
✔️ How does Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet work?

Nitroglycerin, a nitrate, relaxes blood vessels, reducing the heart's oxygen demand and workload, thereby preventing or treating angina attacks (chest pain).

✔️ Side Effects of Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet

Side effects of nitroglycerin may include facial flushing, headache, dizziness, postural hypotension with potential reflex tachycardia, or paradoxical bradycardia. Toxic effects may manifest as vomiting, restlessness, cyanosis, methemoglobinemia, and syncope

✔️ Quick Suggestions:
  • Nitroglycerin may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not consume alcohol while taking Nitroglycerin as it may cause increased dizziness.
  • It may cause headaches which usually go away after a few days of continued treatment. Inform your doctor if it persists.
  • You may develop tolerance to Nitroglycerin with time, meaning that the same dose may be less effective next time. Follow the prescribed dosing schedule to avoid this.
  • Stop taking medications (prescribed for erectile dysfunction) like sildenafil or tadalafil while on treatment with Nitroglycerin as it may cause low blood pressure.
✔️ Indication of Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet

Nitroglycerin is used for the prophylaxis of chronic stable angina pectoris, a condition characterized by recurring chest pain or discomfort due to reduced blood flow to the heart.

✔️ Pharmacology

The primary pharmacological action of nitroglycerin is to relax vascular smooth muscle, leading to the dilation of peripheral arteries and veins, with a particular effect on veins. This venous dilation reduces venous return to the heart, decreasing left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure. Arteriolar relaxation results in a reduction in systemic vascular resistance and arterial pressures. Coronary artery dilation also occurs. The relative importance of these actions, including preload reduction, afterload reduction, and coronary artery dilation, remains uncertain. Unlike most medications with dosing regimens designed to maintain continuous therapeutic plasma concentrations, nitrates like nitroglycerin are notably different. Their efficacy diminishes with continuous use, and to maintain their antianginal effect, drug-free periods are necessary.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet

For adults and elderly patients, the dosage should be tailored to individual requirements but typically involves taking 1 or 2 tablets three times daily. The lowest effective dose should be used.

✔️ Interaction

Nitroglycerin may enhance the effects of peripheral vasodilators. Its hypotensive effects are potentiated when co-administered with sildenafil.

✔️ Contraindications
  • Marked anemia
  • Head trauma
  • Cerebral hemorrhage
  • Closed-angle glaucoma
  • Known hypersensitivity to nitrates
  • Hypotensive conditions
  • Hypovolemia
  • Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
  • Aortic/mitral stenosis
  • Cardiac tamponade
  • Constrictive pericarditis
  • Orthostatic dysfunction

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

There is no established evidence regarding the safety of nitrates during pregnancy and lactation. Nitroglycerin should not be administered to pregnant women or nursing mothers unless it is considered essential by a physician.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

Nitroglycerin should be used with caution in patients with specific conditions as listed in the contraindications section. Co-administration with sildenafil or nitric oxide donors is contraindicated.

✔️ Storage Conditions

Store nitroglycerin in a cool and dry place, protecting it from light and moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

No

Excess Nitroglycerin may result in low blood pressure, sweating, nausea, vomiting, headache, weak and fast pulse. It may also cause weakness, lightheadedness on standing and the patient might even faint. The patient will require emergency medical treatment in such a case.

Nitroglycerin is used to prevent angina attacks in patients with coronary artery disease. In this condition, the heart's blood vessels become narrow, making the heart work harder to get oxygen. Nitroglycerin relaxes these blood vessels, reducing the heart's workload and increasing oxygen supply to the heart.
