How does Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet work?

Nitroglycerin, a nitrate, relaxes blood vessels, reducing the heart's oxygen demand and workload, thereby preventing or treating angina attacks (chest pain).

Side Effects of Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet

Side effects of nitroglycerin may include facial flushing, headache, dizziness, postural hypotension with potential reflex tachycardia, or paradoxical bradycardia. Toxic effects may manifest as vomiting, restlessness, cyanosis, methemoglobinemia, and syncope

• Nitroglycerin may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires concentration until you know how it affects you.
• Do not consume alcohol while taking Nitroglycerin as it may cause increased dizziness.

Pharmacology

The primary pharmacological action of nitroglycerin is to relax vascular smooth muscle, leading to the dilation of peripheral arteries and veins, with a particular effect on veins. This venous dilation reduces venous return to the heart, decreasing left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure. Arteriolar relaxation results in a reduction in systemic vascular resistance and arterial pressures. Coronary artery dilation also occurs. The relative importance of these actions, including preload reduction, afterload reduction, and coronary artery dilation, remains uncertain. Unlike most medications with dosing regimens designed to maintain continuous therapeutic plasma concentrations, nitrates like nitroglycerin are notably different. Their efficacy diminishes with continuous use, and to maintain their antianginal effect, drug-free periods are necessary.

Dosage & Administration of Anril SR 2.6mg Tablet

For adults and elderly patients, the dosage should be tailored to individual requirements but typically involves taking 1 or 2 tablets three times daily. The lowest effective dose should be used.

Interaction

Nitroglycerin may enhance the effects of peripheral vasodilators. Its hypotensive effects are potentiated when co-administered with sildenafil.
