- Angina (heart-related chest pain)
✔️ Dosage & Administration of Nitrovas SR 2.6
Dosing should be individualized based on symptom severity and patient response.
For adults, the recommended dose is one 2.6 mg sustained-release tablet or capsule, taken twice daily, preferably on an empty stomach in the morning and evening.
✔️ Drug Interactions
- Potentiation of antihypertensive effect may occur with other vasodilators, calcium channel blockers, or beta-blockers.
- Alcohol and tricyclic antidepressants may increase the risk of hypotension.
- Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil) may cause dangerous drops in blood pressure when taken with nitrates.
- Aspirin may enhance nitroglycerin's effects by decreasing its clearance.
- May reduce heparin's effectiveness.
- Enhances dihydroergotamine bioavailability.
✔️ Side Effects of Nitrovas SR 2.6
- Common: Headaches (usually temporary), which may require dose adjustment.
- Others: Increased heart rate (tachycardia), low blood pressure upon standing (postural hypotension), fainting, cyanosis, and methemoglobinemia.
✔️ Do not use in patients with:
- Known hypersensitivity to nitrates
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Severe anemia, head trauma, or cerebral hemorrhage
- Closed-angle glaucoma
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
There is insufficient evidence on safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Use only if indicated and under strict medical supervision.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Exercise caution in patients at risk of glaucoma.
- Do not abruptly stop treatment, as this can worsen angina. Taper the dose gradually if discontinuing.
- Careful monitoring is required in patients recovering from a recent heart attack to avoid complications like hypotension or tachycardia.
